Hey guys. I am new here but not new to DSM's. I have had a few non turbo 1G DSM's in the past and finally got a Tsi Awd. The day I went down to get it, I got a text at 4am from the girl I bought it from and she said it wouldnt start. So later on in the morning, I talked to her dad and he said it was not getting spark. I pulled the ECU and it looked great. Then swapped the CAS. Still nothing so then we swapped the coil and it fired right up.

Checked everything over and drove her home. A 3 hour trip that was very nerve racking. I was just paironoid. The chicks dad told me it runs 35lbs of boost. Thats crazy for a street use car. So I need to change that. He also told me that he rebuilt the engine. Aftermarket cams, all new and upgraded internals. I am having him make a list for me of everything he did to it. He says it has 425awhp as he had it dynoed.

On the way home, I was getting close to home so I got on her a little. I just heard a pop. I knew right away what it was. IC Pipe popped off. The clamp was loose so I reclamped it and no problems with that again.

There is some turbo lag that is more frequent while using overdrive. It usually runs great but once in a while, it will bog down.

Looking for some help on fixing the turbo lag. This is an all new thing for me. How do I check boost leaks, etc.

But other than that, this thing drives very smooth. The engine is crazy smooth. Idles awesome, no surge, very clean engine. Engine has very low miles as it was rebuilt not too long ago. Which is a great thing because I feel I could drive to florida and back if I had to. This will come in handy for the 2011 Shootout :D
Here are some new pics. I have cleaned her up a bit since these pics.

Im going to help you, there are lots of threads on your topics, did you search, i you didnt do it, there is lots of info already discussed.

im pretty sure the guy was blowing smoke up your ass. that thing looks stock. minus the exhaust.

yea im sorry to say looks like you got ripped off, car looks stock besides the exhaust. did they have proof of the "mods"

Yes is does look stock. I'd pull the VC to find out what cams (should be stamped or have some kind of markings) are in it, you'd find out right away then if he was blowing smoke. 35psi on stock fuel system too? What was he thinking there's no way the stock turbo would handle it for a long period of time and neither would the engine. It would detonate like crazy from running lean. How does he know it was 35? is there an aftermarket boost gauge in it? Hope you didn't pay much for it to be honest. Looks a little rough and to me it looks like he lied about half the stuff that was in it.

Yea I am getting a list of the mods. The injectors are 450's. The turbo is just a small t5. Stock side mount intercooler. He said he didn't know what cams were in it. I guess he didn't put those in because they were in there when he got the car for his daughter. It idles like they are 272's. But yea, the only other thing I know that is for sure done to it is the 4" exhaust.

Btw, I only payed $700 for it. So I think it was well worth it. I want something close to stock so I can upgrade things myself. Then I know what's done to it and I learn in the process.

Boost and vacuum leaks will make it idle like 272s too LOL. I would definitely do some checking up on all the stuff he said it has so you know what you got. I would've bought it for $700. It's definitely a project and needs some work, even in it's condition and if everything he said is not true it's still not a bad deal in my opinion. This is one of the first things I would do: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html

Be prepared to get some injector seals, they are most likely dried up and cracked. They have been on every 1g I've done a BLT so far atleast.

t5? its looks like a 14b. it looks more like a 3inch if that with a 4 inch tip. is it a auto or a 5 speed.

I believe the turbo has TD05/06 stamped on it or something like it. I remeber seeing someone referring to it as TD05/06-18G. I cant remember. I will have to look tomorrow in the day light. It is freezing out there right now. The exhaust is definitely less than 4 inches the whole way. The tip might be 4.

The video that is posted about wouldn't work. I will do some searching around on here. But the car will run great and then all of a sudden acts up. Like it will cut out. Unless you give it more gas or turn over drive off. But still does it. Then it will clear up and run smooth again. When it was running poorly earlier, I turned overdrive off and gave it some throttle. Then I could see the bank and guard rail light up. So there was a flame or something.

Which brings me to answering the question of which tranny it is. It is Auto.

EDIT**Got the vid to work.

35 pounds on 450s? Lawlz. You paid alright for it man, its just that the guy was trying to hype up the car. Treat her well, mod her properly and go from there.

After seeing this car, and hearing everything you have said, sounds like you are still pretty new and have some to learn. A N/T isnt the same, there are many differences.

Read up on the forum

I've read this whole thread without reading the one key word to DSM newcomers:

Maintenance
Check/change timing belt, fluids, accessory belts etc

The timing belt has maybe 1000 miles on it since it was changed. But maintinance is always my number one prioity.

Also, I took the timing belt cover off. According to the timing marks on the cams, it is off by 9 teeth. Something is wrong. Something wasnt done right. With 9 teeth off, this thing should have blown up a long time ago. But it runs way to smooth for it to be that much off.
