Buying 93 Talon TSI AWD Manual

I currently drive a 94 Eagle Talon ES. and have decided to upgrade to a Talon TSI. The car I am looking at is a 93 Talon TSI Manual, and has 98000 miles. The car is completely stock except for a boost controller and some gauges. The car runs great and was completely 150 point inspected, the only problems with it is the paint is faded. The person is asking 4999, but has so far entertained offers of as low as 4200... Is this still too much? Thoughts, comments? Thanks....

Personally I would say this is too high. If you are mechanically inclined you can find a 90-92 (6 bolt) awd for alot less than that. If you arn't you probably don't want an older DSM .

That said you can't tell what shape the rods are in, rod bolts, wrist pins, crank, bearings, etc. He had the boost controller on it so you can guess he has pushed it a bit and it isn't granny's car.

I am not saying the car is crap just saying that 4200 is high for here in the south. I mean that is over a grand higher than it is listed for in NADA.

I would try to get it for 3500 or 4000 at the most. If he knows enough about DSM's to put a boost controller and a guage in, then you know that he probly raced it alot.

I paid $3200 for my 93 TSi AWD w/86k miles on it about 4 months ago, was bone stock. It did need a bit of work that I knew about when I bought it, totalling about $800. So figure $4k for one with lower miles and cherry interior/exterior. I'd talk him down to max $3500 considering the paint condition. Also, did they give you the compression numbers from the 4 cyls? That'll give you a rough idea of how good of condition the engine is in. I'm all for keeping the value high on our quality autos, but you gotta be practical too and 5k is over 1k higher than the blue on it in perfect condition.
