hi again guys. aside from the not running motor what should i look for in this 93 talon awd turbo to make sure that it is a solid car. is there any areas of the car that i should definetly check
thanks a lot guys

why is the motor not running?what kind of owners are they(are they lead foots)?you dont want something that has been beat to death...common sence is your friend.

with a blown motor, its hard to tell what else is wrong with the car (grinds when shifting, bad clutch, stuff like that) basically just look the car over....see if anything looks broken. Id say check for oil leaks but thats pointless if the engine is already dead.

I would take off the intake and check the play in the turbo if they will let you. Also if the motor is already dead and they don't care see if you can drain the fluid out of the rearend and see what it looks like. If it is a pure sludge they pry never have changed it before. Also check to see if the timing belt snapped if that is the reason that it isnt running you are going to be buying a new head, and possibly new pistons if the valves dented them.

Yeah, what they sais!

Also, out of curiousity:

How many miles?

Auto or manual?

AWD or FWD?

Condition?

Price?

We would give you some idea if we think it is a good deal.

Worst case you got to assume the engine is toasted and the turbo as well, tranny (and clutch!) may or may not be good.

So engine and turbo, if you get a JDM setup, might get lucky and get a good engine and working turbo, about $1700 w/shipping. Some of them have a tranny stuck to it also, may or may not be good. They also don't warranty the turbo, so it's a roll of the dice. If you had to buy a new turbo, looking at about $600 for an EVO3 16G turubo to replace the stock turbo.

No wayl of telling if the clutch is good. About $650- $800 with labor if you can't do it yourself.

A used tranny about 500-800 is typical, sometimes as low as $350.

Windshield? If it's cracked about $250 installed.

Tires? $350-$500 depending on what you want.

And of course with a DSM, some parts you also got to watch:

ECU/Computer that controls fuel and ignition: New $1200 Used $150-$350

Idle Speed Control Motor: New $230 Used $20-$150

Of course those you probably won't discover the condition until after you replace the engine. But the ECU, if you take it out, open it up and smell it, you can see if it appears good. If smells like fish, is going out, and may be toasted.

hey thanks for all the responses guys its a 93 tsi with 53 thousand miles on it. it is a 5 speed and apparently the clutch and differential have been changed.
