Hey guys i have a chance to get a 93 talon tsi for only about $250 with the title but its an auto matic. it has new brakes all round, fairly new tires, sun roof, body isnt bad at all, and its all there bumper to bumper minus a radio. i want to know what you guys think about this buy so i got a couple question. First how are the FWD TSI's with the automatic trannies? do they have enough power? and also the reason its so cheap is because the timing belt blew in it.:notgood: i pulled the timming cover off and theres the belt all shredded and everything. i have a couple spare heads that ive acquired one of which is all ported and race setup with modded cams:thumb: but thats for my 90 AWD TSI. so the valves arent a problem to get but i was mostly wondering about the pistons... whats the worse that could of happend, and whats the most likely that did happen. if a valve hit a piston does that one need to be replaced or doo all of them need to be replaced or is it possible to still run it with a nick in it? any and all help is appreciated. thanx again guys!:talon:

Take it as a parts car the valves and pistons are toast it the belt is snapped and STAY away from auto trannies i have nothing but trouble with mine im swapping it out for 5-speed.

Thats funny that you have problems with your auto tranny. From what I have read/seen the 5 speeds have more issues.

Auto trannies are nothing but trouble consider this most 1g dsm are around 13 years old the trannies are old worn out the tcu's are ready to give up wiring can burn out not to mention they rob the engine of power etc there are so many little things that can go wrong with them. I went through 2 used trannies in 4 months all shit and 2 tcu's must have been really bad luck but i'm denitely never going near them again not worth the time or money unless you can afford a proper rebuild by someone like IPT + 5-speed swap is straight forward

I disagree. I believe auto trannies have proven time and time again that they are more reliable then 5spd trannies. After you get a built 5spd tranny, lightened flywheel, and cluth w/ pressure plate and crap you have spent as much money as you would to build an auto w/ high stall convertor. Now which one is going to be easier to drive and more consistent. A clutch with a heavy pressure plate is not as easy to drive as a stocker of course. As long as proper maintenance is provided an auto tranny can last a long time. I have heard of many auto trannies outlasting the motor itself. I guess ultimately you are the one to make the choice. Just make sure you do your research. Dont listen to me or any 1 person. Take it all in then decide.

For the price you can get the car for, You can't go wrong. You can part it out or sell it for double of what you would be paying for it.
Very true, the 13g turbo that I had on my DSM went to a 3000GT owner for $110 shipped. Not to mention how many 1g DSMers are willing to look for interior pieces. For that price, I would pick it up and sell stuff to the Lasers, they seem to be lacking everything on their cars. As in the turbo body kit and rims, just so worth it I tell ya.:thumb:
