Well, months ago I had piston slap, and begin tearing my motor apart.

Block was toast due to deep gouges in #1 cylinder. But I did found out my car had Eagle H beams and JE pistons...unfortunately also toast :(

Anyways, picked up a stock shortblock from Evil94Evo had it cleaned, honed, and crank polished. Overall it was in awesome shape, I could have just dropped it in but I don't want to ever have to do this again LOL.

Add an $80 Ebay kit and I'm leaving now to begin reassembly after I post this.

I'll leave a review on this set once I know how things go :) But so far the gasket set is really complete, even has all the crush washers.

Make sure that you don't use the oil pan gasket in that kit. Some company's sell a gasket, but the engine was designed for a bead of rtv.

I was just going to mention that. DO NOT use the gasket if you dont want leaks. Put a nice bead of The Right Stuff RTV Sealant and itll seal nicely.
 
thanks for the tip, I did know tho.

Anyways, got all the oil clearances and end gaps etc done today and almost whole shortblock assembled.

It was a pain switching the BSEK from my old block to the new, reusing the bearings.

All the Eve piston rings were in spec, except to file like .0010 off the middle ring on all 4



OOOOOHH. I've read about the stubby shaft for those (BSEK) not having an oil groove causing problems...should I replace mine? Because mine is of that sort.

Thanks man. It's been slow so far but I'm like 5x checking everything because I never want to do this again LOL. I'm thru all the technical stuff and I can actually start some assembly now

And yeah its staying blue, I painted my valve cover same blue but brushed the letters yellow as well

shit. I was fearing that. But I mean it was in the car for at least 10k miles I know of, most likely a lot more. And I don't think it caused any problems, but I'll look into that subject more


My engine problems came from me parking, scraping a curb hence cracking line to the oil cooler. Being a lil drunk and cranking up the music I didn't realize it till I started it the next day :(

That trashed the bearings leading to piston slap that gouged block pretty nasty

I only drink about 6 times a year now and when I do I make sure I'm %100 okay to get home or I'll stay there. I got a DUI about 3 years ago, and I'm still paying for it...NEVER gonna let that happen again LOL

My biggest problem was that I was buzzin' and turned on my music before I even started my car...
 
Plan on changing the oil around 50 miles or so initially; then at 300 and 1000 miles before resuming normal oil change intervals. Use break-in oil or conventional 10W30.

Plan on changing that Evergreen valve cover gasket before your first oil change. :D

even with copper spray on gasket? and I've heard about re-torque'ing arp headstuds after heat cycles...do I have to worry about that?

and 5w-30 wont work for break-in? Not that it's a big deal but I already have some.

because the kit I swapped over from my first motor is like that.

Make sure the stubby shaft HAS the grove, because if it doesn't you could risk it seizing and ruining your motor. Get the correct stubby shaft (oem).

I said nothing about a head gasket, although my experience with Evergreen head gaskets is less-than-stellar as well.

That valve cover gasket will leak between 500 and 1000 miles. When you take it off it will be as hard as a brick. I don't know how that company can put such a shitty gasket in their kits.

Yes. Makin due with what I got. Got it on a work bench at least tho.

And great, another set back. Gonna have to wait for that stubby shaft now

Well, seeing as its winter its not going to exceed 60degrees. It rarely hits 70-80 in the summer LOL.

And I guess I'll be replacing that. Any ideas on where to get it fastest??? That'd be really helpful

I'm going to rent a cherry picker once I'm ready. I'll have it assembled on a pallet then pick it up with that

I got a big 16g and I was only running 12PSI because I had no idea what exactly was done to my car untill tearing it completely apart.

I'm going to put it at 16psi. still plenty of power!

Oh cool. And with ARPs the head gasket will defiantly handle the 16 psi you plan on throwing at it.

thanks man! I want this car to last a long time so I'm gonna keep the boost low and go easy on her :) head was just rebuilt from bent valves 3k miles ago so I got a brand new motor essentially

excited to have gotten this far. My neextdoor neighbor thats a retired mechanic was even saying he's really suprised how I've done everything on my own so far the right way. Of course with a little help here and there.

The most I'd ever done to a car was brakes, slave cylinders etc. Never had any auto classes or nothin either.

It's been a lot of fun to see how everything works and fits together on an engine

Yeah man thats how i was a year ago. my dad was a mechanic and i did most of my build with the help of tuners and my dad was surprised LOL. and over the last year that I've been a member on here I've learned so much. i know more then my friend thats attending a auto tech school LOL
 
wtf are your guys problem? have you guys even tried the gasket in this kit yourselves?? if you haven't don't even give your 2 cents.. i have this evergreen gasket kit on my car so far i got no leaks nothing. its holding pretty good 10k+.
