Well, months ago I had piston slap, and begin tearing my motor apart.

Block was toast due to deep gouges in #1 cylinder. But I did found out my car had Eagle H beams and JE pistons...unfortunately also toast :(

Anyways, picked up a stock shortblock from Evil94Evo had it cleaned, honed, and crank polished. Overall it was in awesome shape, I could have just dropped it in but I don't want to ever have to do this again LOL.

Add an $80 Ebay kit and I'm leaving now to begin reassembly after I post this.

I'll leave a review on this set once I know how things go :) But so far the gasket set is really complete, even has all the crush washers.

so far everything in the kit I bought seems really good quality, especially the rings.

and for $80 shipped it cant be beat.

and yeah same here most everything I've learned is from hours and hours and reading on this site

any chance of being able to grind/modify my stubby to work? I'll have to look at that balance shaft tomorrow, I'm assuming the mirage one mimics the balance shaft itself

wtf are your guys problem? have you guys even tried the gasket in this kit yourselves?? if you haven't don't even give your 2 cents.. i have this evergreen gasket kit on my car so far i got no leaks nothing. its holding pretty good 10k+.
I've bought three of them; one for a customer's car a while back, two for myself a year or so ago when I had over $100 in eBay Bucks expiring and needed nothing else at the time.

Every *paper* gasket in the kit is fine- the longest I've successfully had one of these head gaskets last was about 78 miles before blowing between cylinders 2 & 3, filling both with coolant. This was with standard 1G head bolts re-torqued at the 50-mile break-in oil change.

The valve cover gaskets from the other two kits I have became hard as a brick, allowing oil to run down the front of the engine on Christi's 1G no matter how tight the bolts were. Upon removal both times, the gasket was so brittle it literally broke into pieces. I've since installed a used FelPro valve cover gasket on her car that came from my buddy Jeff's 2G....two oil changes later and still no leaks.

Now I have two Evergreen engine sets that are missing valve cover gaskets but contain head gaskets I'll never use...so I'll likely replace them with FelPro whenever I need one. I'm done with eBay gasket sets- FelPro all the way from now on.

So before you criticize, make sure you actually have a valid argument.

hmm at least my turbo is a mhi 16g LOL

Well...just ordered a Cometic Headgasket and the OEM Mitsu stubby shaft..Overnighted from MAP should be here tomorrow.

Another question...I got an Exedy Stage 2 clutch, do I need an Exedy allignment tool or just a normal DSM one??

Thanks for all the advice Justin.

Dont know what I'd do without you guys

Well, I stripped off the front case again to replace my stubby shaft when it comes tomorrow.

Copper spray ruined the OFH and oil pump gaskets...Oh well

There's been a few struggles along the way.

Number 1...When I put in my OEM stubby shaft, I put the gear on it backwards and it was just barely above flush so it cracked my front case. Luckily I had a spare.

Number 2...Put the bottom end and tranny in. Returned the cherry picker only to realize I put the pulleys on water pump backwards. And by doing so it was so tight against the frame, I had to remove literally everything above the front case with the engine in the car to take out the water pump completely.

>.< other than that things have gone pretty smoothly LOL. And I'm having a pretty good time

And at around 1500 miles I could resume normal driving right?

You should drive the car normal all the time. Actually, you should break the engine in a bit hard, not soft.

The build is looking good though!

Hope your eBay engine bits hold up better than mine did. Never again.

Well, I ended up using a Cometic headgasket. The rest of the gaskets should be just fine.

The bearings were King bearings. Those will be fine.

The rings tho...Should be fine...Everything was in-spec when I installed. But we'll see how they hold up.

Curious, what happened to yours?

Went with a cheap eBay timing belt as opposed to a proper one. 4000 miles later and it snapped.

OUCH :( Sorry man that sucks!!

Previous owner snapped timing belt on mine, and had it rebuilt with all OEM parts, including timing. That was about 3,000 miles ago, I just bought a new belt, a "proper one" LOL

It looks like the cup was installed convex out. I think it will fair fine, but I don't know how to be sure it's in there square..

Also would like to add that I hope that you took the time to have both the block and head resurfaced properly for the Cometic. Also, those gaskets are designed to be installed dry, so do not use any type of copper spray or such on them.

Other than that, looks like its coming along!
