so i had 3 days off from work to install this turbo, which seemed like more than enough time to do it, and i am lucky enough to have a grandpa who owns a lift for his company, only setback is that this lift is about 35 miles from my house and its way out in the country, but the first day went well i got everything out, the second day i was setback because the stud got seized in the 02 housing so i needed a new stud which sucked because i didnt feel like driving 35 min to a store to get a bolt and 35 min back so i decided to wait get the stud the next morning and come out and work on the turbo again the next day i got everything bolted on, except i had the water lines on backwards  so i took the turbo off and switched the water lines and started to bolt the turbo back up and the first three bolts to bolt the turbo back on to the exhaust manifold went on fine but the last one went in about half way and just wouldn't go in any farther. I took the turbo out only to see i stripped the threads on the turbo, i went to get the tap and die to rethread it but wonderfully someone stole my grandpas metric set . today i picked up a metric set but i wont have time to work on my turbo till monday, it's only 5 days away but I'm starting to get impatient since i haven't driven my car since last october, and i am going to have to put it back in storage in september when i go back to college.

I'll second that...and im just trying to make my car reliable, well somewhat reliable.

haha..thats an oxymoron. reliable <> DSM. but yea im sorry bout your luck man. it sucks not being able to drive the DSM trust me i know but when you do get to drive it, its the best time of the year..well for those 10 mins.

sounds about right....My Fuel system upgrade has gone liek this....

Did all the hard stuff and the last thing to do was install injectors and I broke a stud into the head.......$90 Dollars worth of tools later that I needed Ne way, It came out, went to install the injectors and had the wrong seals...........Nobody in town stocks a seal i need .......

I have never been able to upgraded or do any in depth maintenance with out something breaking, its just the way of the dsm world

Maybe you guys are doing it wrong then? I mean, there are definately times when you have to replace things if you remove something else, but doing something like a timing belt shouldnt require replacing parts that aren't in the kit.

Yeah but you gotta remember the 1g's are not that far from being a classic and thats plenty of time for things to wear out and rust, especially if you live in Michigan. Replacing parts, I look at it as restoring my car. Step by step it will be like it was the day it rolled out of the factory. These cars are my generations muscle cars/hot rods, no time and money is waist when I put it in my car (except for when I gotta replace it twice cause I didnt do it right the first time) but hey you live and learn.
