my evo 8 pistons rods and bearings came in

okay they finally came in. im dropping these into my 95 gst. these also came with bearings but i bought acl race bearings. should i put the acls or keep the stock mitsu bearings on this? also the pistons are stamped with the number 63te8. i read somewhere that my compression will now change?

You need to measure to make sure you're putting in the proper size bearings, new over used bearings for sure. Compression on the EVO pistons is 8.8:1.

If memory serves me correctly you have to change piston orientation when using the evo pistons as well.

Correct, they need to be facing the opposite way as a 2G piston

The 2G pistons have an arrow on them that when installed points towards the timing belt side of the block. I cant remember if the Evo 8 pistons do or not. If so they need to point toward the transmission side of the block

Are the EVO 8s offset like the 9s though? I don't remember. The reason the 9s are installed backwards is because the pin is offset 1mm to one side to keep stresses down. This offset needs to remain the same, and since the 9's engine is opposite ours, they need to be switched. Easiest way to be sure you're set up right is the smaller reliefs for the exhaust valves need to now reside where the intake valves are.

If the 8s are not offset like the 9s, then you can run them with the reliefs lined up for a DSM. Hope that makes sense...

hmm well i got them with the rods and bearings all put together. so i just flip the whole thing around then so the smaller cuts in the piston needs to be on the intake side.

Only if the pins are offset, and I can't remember if it's just the 9s that are offset or the 8s as well.

It doesn't matter if they came with bearings, toss them. You need to get your crank and rods measured so that you can get bearings with proper clearances.
