Every time I re-open this thread it turns into a Hangout-esque free-for-all. Keep the questions technical... if you want to praise him, show your approval or disapproval, or otherwise express an opinion, keep it to PM's.

Better yet, why is any of that stuff in there? Dashes. door panels, carpet, etc. all seems out of place in a "race car."

+1. Ditch it all. Lighter car, lighter car...

Yeah I was thinking that too but with the dash it looks like they're in the process of takin it apart even thought it really only takes like an hour to take the whole thing appart totaly so unless they were that anxious to take pics of the nice bright almost out of place racing seat LOL I don't see why they wouldn't take the rest off either. Then agian he did say he's putting the obx lsd in so they might just be busy workin on the stuff that really matters :thumb:

Great progress, but why are you keeping the stock suspension?

Are you going to use the blocks for the back springs, to prevent squatting?

He has Tanabe suspension. See post #470.

Just curious did you just not get to it or are you not taking the door panels off?

Im building the car to run NHRA/NOPI Sport FWD and the rules state that you have to have full interior so, That's why it stays in

The OBX is going in my daily driver. The RaceCar gets the Quaife.

Dude I'm a fiberglass guy I can make door panels less then half the weight of stockers. Granted it won't be super strong but it will look like an interior and be light as hell.

a gutted door pannel weighs like 5-10 pounds hw much lighter can you make to to justify the effort:confused:

Doesn't matter. Half the stuff on race cars doesn't justify the value/cost. Like a $10,000 fiberglass shell to save maybe 100 pounds. Less weight is less weight.

If you want to be technical the OEM door panels are around 10pounds. I've made panels you can throw around like an empty pizza box. They're signifcantly lighter when you pick them both up and gauge their weight.

Well if you have $10,000 to spend on weight reduction your probably going for the NHRA championship or just really like to brag about how much you car weighs but in most race car classes with the exception of ones liek his where you have to stay stock buying a good quality light piece like it sounds like you make isn't logical when youc an just take it off all together. Good to know you make fiberglass stuff like that though I would buy something like that for my car as I have more then one seat and a real interior still LOL

Speaking of which....

Zero: Do you have a number as to how much the car will weigh?

IM shooting for 2400-2500 pounds when its all said and done ....when the dash was off there was 45pounds of usless metal that was removed form behind!!!

but yea i hope im more closer to 2400pounds

What metal did you cut out behind the dash? When I took mine out there was a huge bar that went across, but it looked pretty important. Is that what you cut out? Do you have any pics of what you cut out? I looked through the pics in this post, but i didnt see any pics of the front interior with your dash out.

NO i did not cut out the cross beam..unfortunitly the dash is back in and there were no pics taken...

Yeah I'd have to say there is a pretty good amount of weight to be shaved behind the dash. I have an extra one I've been working with and if you removed alot of the brackets and vents, I'd say you're getting close to 10-15 pounds removed from the originial weight of the car.

The past week or so I've been tucking some wires around and converting soem lines to SS set-up. Something to do before I put in a new manifold and spray the egine bay. It's not finished this is just the 1st stage of my engine bay clean-up. Just moving things around and out to create more room for when I mold, paint, etc..

Overall with some guesstimate weighing, I'd say a good 15-20 pounds came out of my engine bay. It wasn't just me weighing it either it was also some friends so thats a estimate on the low side. Not to mention the AC charger and accessories I removed.

These were taken out of the bay...

I didn't get close enough pictuires to show what wires I tucked away but I haven't even touched any of the EVAP or charging systems in the paseneger side wheel well. Once all that gets removed I'm putting some catch cans in there.. I tucked the main harness underneath the battery tray and moved the fuse box and ecu harness down behind the IM and around the battery up to to another location with some new brackets I made. Much lighter then the stockers.

Overall, I've pulled about 55 pounds from the engine bay of the car. That's even excluding the carbon fiber hood.

DSM-ZERO- sorry if it looks like I'm hijacking the thread. It's just comething relevant to our cars and your car at the same time. Paul if you have a problem with this post here just move it or make it a new thread/sticky.. Thanks guys..

sup every1 im new here .well i like the project its going really good. i just wanted to tell you i think your gonna make atleast 800hp depends on your engine work but its possible with your setup. now the question is how much have you spent on that project LOL . keep us updated as it goes along.
J/1 :thumb:

Thx dude

Altgough i think that 800hp will be a big streach for the turbo. I feel very confident that i will be in the 700hp range though....
Lets just say i have spent ALOT k.
As far as how much HP i will have, we will have to just wait and see

i have plans for setting my eclipse for the same thing but not up to 700 hp good luck that would be a great achevment! :dsm:

I used to follow this thread closely, but progress has seemed to come to a standstill lately so I don't keep up with it anymore. I thought he was about ready to get it on the dyno back in the summer...
