Multiple Problems

I have a 1990 tsi with an evo 3 16g, fmic, maf-t. My car was running fine one evening before i parked it for the night, and the next morning i started it and noticed the exhaust had a different tone. Over the last week it lost some power, builds boost slowly, and doesnt idle warm without my foot on the throttle.

Probably blew out the manifold gasket.

I would say a major exhaust leak as well could be the gasket from the turbo to the mani as well

depending on how loud the exhaust got i would say an exhuast leak, and most likely the 2 bolt flange where the downpipe connects. i know you said that it was fine when you parked it, but i would still do a pressure test on the plumbing to make sure its not a boost leak or something of that sort if you dont see any exhaust leaks. a boost leak or vacuum leak will cause the car to not run and will change the exhaust tone as the car runs poorly and the computer tries to automatically adjust by retarding timing, dumping extra fuel and such. keep us posted

the exhaust has gotten quieter actually, not louder. It seems though the more I drive the worse it gets. I also have noticed it reads 18-19 in/he rather then 22 while driving.

the boost still builds to 10psi where I have it set with the 16g, but now it hits at 4000rpm with more throttle rather then 3000-3500 with much less throttle. the pull while hitting boost is also minimal compared to what it was.

unfortunately I had plans to install the walbro 255, injectors, and fpr over the long weekend, but couldn't do anything until this is solved.

Sounds like a big boost leak, popped ic piping somewhere.
