Picked up a 91 tsi awd 5spd. Noticed that when i first turn it on and its cold it dosent grind in any gear, but once ive been driving for say 3 mins or so it'll start grinding only 2nd and 4th.

Also reverse is hard to get into. Im lost as i have great clutch pedal feel. Im going to check the fluid tomorrow and change it. For now ive been driving 1st to 3rd to 5th LOL.

Could the cable be stretched? I found the cable adjust how to, but i pulled my shifter boot off quick and everything looks good. But im gonna go take a look right now. Any help?

Two simple things will most likely resolve this.

1 : Bleed the Slave cylinder properly. Remember that there is an air pocket behind the cylinder in the slave cylinder that you should push the piston it before closing the bleeder valve to remove that air pocket.

2 : Adjust your shifter cables.

To me it sounds like you just need to do the above two things, check the boots on the shifter cables near the transmission to make sure they aren't ripped, and possibly adjust the cable at your shifter base to allow more travel. If all else fails, adjust your pedal assembly.

Alright I adjusted the cables to what the how said. They moved maybe 3 turns for the front to back movement. Then for the side to side maybe 2 full turns. How do I go about adjusting the pedal? Also when I went outside I went threw all the gears first dosent grind hardly at all when im at a dead stop. But it did it once and it was 3rd not the mentioned gears.

Ill look over the shifter cable boots to see if there torn. Thanks for the help so far.Trying to get this thing near 100% driveable.

Here's a test I want you to do.

1 : Start your car
2 : Take your foot off the clutch
3 : Slowly push your shifter towards each gear. SLOWLY. You're not trying to get it in gear.
4 : Listen to the engine. The closer you get to the gear, the more the engine should begin to bog.
5 : Do this to each gear. If one ever just grinds instead of causing the engine to bog, you have bad syncros.

What it sounds like is either a Syncro problem or the system wasn't bled correctly and the clutch is dragging.

Something else you can do is to leave it out of gear and rev it up to 5-6 grand. If the car starts to creep forward, your clutch is dragging.

Do 2g cars have the adjustable shifter cables? I just randomly wondered since my car is grinding almost every gear nowadays and it just started all of a sudden.

Well did the reving up first nope didnt move the car.But it did just wanna fall into gear in 2nd and 4th 1st 3rd and 5th didnt grind.Slowed the motor down and want to move the car forward. So looks like im gonna have to get a rebuild.

Sorry to hear, but if it just tried to fall right into gear without bogging the transmission your syncros are gone. =/ You could TRY to see if they are savable by flushing the trans and refilling it with GM Synchromesh....It likely won't fix the issue but it's worth a shot.
