I was able to set up and begin tuning my MS2 tonight finally.

Using my AEM Eugo gauge I am able to read the output of the sensor; aka I am able to see my a/f ratio. However even after setting up Tuner Studio MS v 1.14 to sync with an AEM Linear AEM 30-42xx, it constantly reads 19 (+) a/f ratio.

I keep reading, and hearing people say MS2 has trouble calibrating with AEM Uegos however at rates of half a ratio or better, not just not syncing what so ever.

I have already double checked my wiring not to mention the MS wire is soldered to the gauge wire, so if one wasn't going to work, both wouldnt.

All my MS grounds, sensor grounds, relay grounds, battery ground, and engine grounding kit all me at the same spot, including my fuel pump. So I know it is not a ground issue.

And thoughts or insight would be great! Thank You.

This sounds suspicious to me... The controller is in the gauge, so it's not like there's a specific wire carrying a 0-5V analog signal to the gauge. It seems like you have the signal wire from your MegaSquirt ECU connected to +5V (which corresponds to ~19:1 AFR). It should be connected to a white wire from your UEGO controller and nothing else.

I appreciate the insight bro, I went ahead and addressed the concern this morning. Turns out i was given some advice that was miss interpreted with the conversation on both ends, and I ended up tapping into the white wire leading in the 5 wire WB bundle instead of using the 0-5 serial white wire coming out of the gauge.

All fixed now, and so the tuning resumes.

I appreciate the update, I purchased this unit a few years ago and just now got around to installing it.

Which leads me to a new problem.

Set up base idle, purchased the auto tune feature from tuner studio.

I had the car running well, set up warm up idle, set up closed loop idle, started doing some partial throttle hold tuning, letting it learn a small map 30-99 kpa and 700-4400 rpm map in VE1, so I set up my A/F 1 map to goal a/f ratios and was letting the car do its thing, periodically stopping the auto tune feature to "burn" the new settings and going back and doing it again.

Long story short I was just about to move onto actually putting the car in gear and doing low throttle, low speed tuning, when all of the sudden the gauges on tuner studio go around and around like a clock, and the car starts to run funky. I turn the key off and back on, the pump stays priming and the car wont start.

Any insight?

^ sounds like it reset, or power was interrupted.. when you turn the key on, does TS recognize the MS, ie go online? were you logging? I suggest always log.. that way we can see if its loosing sync somewhere etc..

we will need to see if when you cranking were getting a signal, above 300 rpm, then see if were getting fuel and spark.

When I turn the key on, pump stays running and all 3 LEDs on the M.S. stay lit.

When I then log onto tuner studio, it stats that I am offline.

I tested injector pulse with a noide light... and have no pulse.

I tested spark with a spark tester... and have no spark.

so I am registered at the of tuner studio, with name and file name.

My fuel pump runs all the time with key on, and I have no spark or pulse width.

Yes, for some reason sounds like your MS has lost the firmware, reload the firmware and see what happens. Id be willing to bet your unit did a hard reset. What was your dwell set at before you had these problems?

Ok, This is where I need help then.

I purchased this unit new from symtech some time ago, but due to personal reasons wasn't able to do anything with the unit until this past weekend.

The unit was purchased with firmware already installed, I just needed to sync it to some software, to which I choose Tuner Studio. I already tried starting a new project and tried re-syncing, which of course did not work.

How do I re-install firmware onto the processor?

Glowryder to add to our convo.

In the position I am now, I do have 5v out and 5v at appropriate sensors, I still feel the common problem lies internal/possible firmware issue do to the soul fact that I dont have communication and the fuel pump doesn't just prime it stays running.

I will follow that link and see if i get lucky. Otherwise I feel like I will need to find someone who can diag the boards and replace what failed.

To do this does the MS need to be hooked up to the car with key on?

Also I am reading the link, however it does not show you how to answer the questions, nor do I know what the answers are.

LOL.. incase reading is hard.. ; ) jus givin ya shit. i had a hard time with the manuals, this vid is really good.

unaclocker's Channel - YouTube

the vid will walk ya thru.

yea ms needs, power, but id unhook injectors, Coil pack and fuel pump. Yo alsi need to have the case off so you can play with the boot jumper..

MS needs to have power but it states that you need to unhook the injectors and coil pack. As far as messing with the boot jumper, if your using the latest version of "extra" then you don't need to mess with the boot jumper.

I did the following tutorial, thank you, I learn better from watching others then reading.

No communication with comm port, so I timed out.

I re-loaded and updated my USB serial adaptor disk, and re-tryed, to no avail.

So what is my next step?

I unplugged my injectors, coil pack and fuel pump.

I do not need a jumper for I am just upgrading from a previously installed firmware.

I tried uploading 3.1.1 for giggles, but like I stated, I followed the tutorial, lowered my buffer to 1s, and pressed used comm port that showed in the box when I lowered the buffers.

So how do I figure out what my communication error is? Is it my lap top at this point?

is the baude rate correct? i believe its supposed to be 112500? or something, i know you have to set it on the comp, that could be an issue. whats your OS on the comp?

I did everything the tutorial stated, which was set baud rate to 115200, lowered the buffers to 1 on both settings, Comm port was 4, so I ok'd it all, opened up the file, ran it, set 1 for MS2, then 1 for debug, N for sayin no to the jumper, turned the key on, hit enter, hit enter to say yes everything is un-plugged, then it times out.

try using the jumper method?

whats the os on your comp.. i had this issue running windows 7. had to get a comp with xp.

I am running XP, and I will have to do some h.w. on what to put where to do this jumper method.

should be all in the vid man, the boot jumper in on the ms2 chip, hard to miss. i think (iirc) you just remove it, and when it prompts you removed y/n, hit yes. shouldnt be too much more then what uve already tried

You jumper them to load firmware onto the MS2. If there is no comms I would double check Voltages. ## 5v you can test in the proto area. And 12v at the weird looking round cap by the DB37 If you still have no comms I would look into a dead CPU or a dead serial IC.

OS should be no problem. I run 7 on my laptop that I use to tune and load the firmware onto. And ken who developed the MSExtra code and the MS3 Code uses linux and windows 7. He lives up the road from me has been helping me with my Fuel injection conversion on my 83 Rx7.

i could never get w7 to load firmware onto my ms. even when i tired running virtural xp on my win7, it would just time out... it does everything else fine tho.. idk. LOL. but OPs XP should be fine.

it isnt that hes is seeing no comm, its that the comm port is timing out when he tries to load firm ware onto ms2 correct? making sure im reading correctly..?
