Motor mounts. Same in FWD & AWD ('89 build date)?

I have a set of motor mounts from my '90 turbo Laser. I want to repaint them with some tough paint, add Prothane inserts and swap them onto my AWD. It's convenient since the FWD motor mounts are already out and laying around. I don't want to keep the engine supported by a jack in AWD while I remove old rubber from and clean/paint the mounts.

Are FWD and AWD mounts exactly the same? Both of the cars were built in late '89.

Nope 3 are different The timing belt side one is the only one you can use

How did you come across the information? In mid-'90 is when they changed the mounts a little bit.

Well Ive torn 4 1g's AWD and FWD have different mounts. The inner rubber part is the same but the actual mount is different. Automatic and manual also have different mounts.

I've just removed the transmission mount. The piece that's attached to body with four bolts (and rubber inner part) is actually exactly the same as on FWD. The bracket that mounts directly to transmission's case is a little different.

The differences I know for a fact are that the AWD trans bracket ( thing that actually bolts to the trans) has a flat surface where it bolts to the tranny while the FWD Turbo has about a 1/4" raise in it on the inner most bolt hole. I tried a FWD N/T from a bone yard and it was the same as the AWD bracket. Also, the rear mount bracket on a AWD is about an inch shorter than those on a FWD.

the front motor mount is DIFF from awd to fwd.

okay i dont know what everyone else it talking about what i did this swap once. i bought a 90 turbo fwd parts car. the car had polys and mine didnt (91 awd). i swaped every motor mount except the rear. for some reason it looked the same but didnt fit right. the transmission one looked a little diffrent but it still worked. the front motor mount is only an insert so take it out of the old car and just stick it in yours. :thumb:

hope tha helps

correct.

I found out the the brackets going on the front and rear of the block are shorter on fwd models of the 90 year, as compared to the awd model.

This sucks when you are trying to bolt everything up, but it just doesn't line up right....
