Hey guys im looking at doing a 2.4l 6 bolt swap for my 98 gst I don't really know what engine to use. I was looking to get a 1g and get it worked on to get the 2.4l then i heard people talking about the galant 2.4l and how much it works better. Would this be the engine that i would be looking out for or what car should i look for i heard something about Kia engines as well.....

The Galant engines you heard people talking about is the 4g63 DOHC galant engine. The link above is for a SOHC engine, so it won't work. I don't know about Kia, but Hyundai used NT 4g63 engines for a few years.

Is there a reason why you are looking for a 2.4L instead of a regular DSM 6bolt engine?

Oh ok so i'll keep looking :)
Yeah i was looking at just buying myself a new bottom end and build up a solid engine and i ran across all that talk about the 2.4l and figured if i can get a good 2.4l bottom end for only like $500 more then I would really really like to take advantage of the extra .4l dispalcement.
I was originally looking at buying a complete longblock 2.4l from SBR since i wanted to make serious HP but that was like 3 months ago and my goals are a litle more real now. I am thinking of getting SBR's stage 1 2.4l which they say should be good for close to 500hp or something like that so i think close to 500hp should more than enough for me :)

If you want to build up from the bottom end, get a regular dsm 6 bolt and build it. The 4g63 engine does not come in a 2.4L size, it is 2.0L engine. SBR uses a 4g64 block to get 2.4L. You cannot buy a 2.4L SOHC engine from another car and expect it to fit in your DSM.

I also hope that this is not your daily driving car and that you have enough funds to fix everything that starts breaking when you reach near the 500hp mark.

Yeah, SBR can increase the displacement from 2.0L to 2.4L on the 4g63, but you cannot buy a 2.4L SOHC engine from another car and expect it to fit in your DSM.

The 2.4 G4CS block bolts right up to our cars and those are SOHC. All you mainly need is the timing belt and cam gears off a 92 galant 2.4. So becareful of what you say when your providing misinformation. and also if you would have put 2.4 in hte search button you would have came up with A LOt of posts about 2.4 liters

I didn't know that galant engines fit in dsms. I apologize for the misinformation. The link above has a lot of good info. Thanks! :thumb:

I was trying to state above that the 2.4L engine from the galant is NOT the same as the 4g64 2.4l engine from SBR. SBR is 7 bolt and galant is 6 bolt.

The ones from the Galant in the early 90's were G4CS. and yes u are right about hte types from sbr.

Are you guys sure about that? Because it says on SBR: SBR Stage 1 2.4L 4G64 6 Bolt Short Block

Anyways I think i got the whole 2.4l wrong because i thought by using the 64 crank in a 63 block you would be able to get that .4l displacement as compared to the 2.3l strokers that have been used much longer.
I am getting my hands on a 6bolt 63 this week. The owner a good buddy of mine pulled it out of his gsx with aboyt 170k miles on it. It ran fine but the main barings for the crank are scewed up but he'll help me with the project.
Im currently looking into finding a good local shop to work on the bottom end. From what i heard my friend had the block laying arround for about 2years all apart and many of the parts like the crank and such are missing so im going to asume that all im having is the bare block and head. If i was to go online and buy complete stroker kit would there be anything else i would need to get the bottom end ready for me to mess with? Like the bearings i think i need to buy as i dont think they come with a kit.
