Ok, so a newbie question. Ive done some research and head that stock internals on a 2g can only handle about 30 pounds of boost and not for long. I plan on running 22 with my new evo3 big16 setup. I have 2 quesitons, one is will my motor handle the 22psi boost with all supporting mods and maintenance done? It will hit 22psi roughly 5 times a week, or is that pushing it? Also, what is involved when rebuilding a motor, such as what is usually replaced doing so?

So do you plan on doing a rebuild of the engine? If you are, then you might as well put a little money into it if your budget isn't too tight. New piston rings can always help when deciding to push more boost then stock.

As for what is replaced during a rebuild, It depends what extent you want to take your rebuild. There really is no set things to do for a typical rebuild. If you could say something it could be gaskets, pistons, bearings, water pump, oil pump, and belts. It all depends on what you are willing to spend on your rebuild.

Im running 22psi on NO motor work at all. Everything internal is stock. I got a big 16g, 680cc, SAFC, FMIC, walbro pump rewired, and other small bolt ons. If you plan on taking your motor out for a build you might as well save up for it to be able to handle your goals...that way your not pulling it out mulitiple times and you can do it all at one time.

First off. I'm curious as to how you're compensating for 680's with only an AFC.

Second, OP. You can run 22lbs on stock internals. You can run 35lbs on stock internals. Upping the boost past factory pre-sets will without a doubt shorten the life of your engine. It's all just a matter of when your car will decide to blow the eff up. Every car is different. 22lbs may work without a hitch on one car, and grenade a seemingly identical vehicle.

With all supporting mods tho, I don't see 22lbs being a problem for your car. And I don't see the need to tear down and rebuild your engine unless:

A) You just really want to
OR
B) You have egg shaped pistons
