Hey, guys -

I'm having a bit of an argument with a friend.

He claims that all the best HP numbers on 4G63 engines are made with MOPAR parts.

I've been lurking around this forum for over 3 years now, and done a fair bit to my GSX along the way. I'd never heard of this claim before.

So: Do we use any MOPAR parts in 4G63 builds? If so, are they the best parts available?

Thanks for helping me settle this.

that confuses me.. anything by chrysler is a mopar.. isnt it?

but would that mean eclipses are mopars?

would that mean that mitsubishies 4cyl that these cars use is a mopar engine?

to much for me :D

this is true but not for parts. our parts are still mitsubishi made. denso is a common brand ran threw mopar. our cars use alot of denso electrical components. i think thats where the mopar came in on the dsm's is the electrical controll units. in that case mopar sucks because of alot of electrical components going to crap ecu's, tps, pcm, cas, ect...

To be clear, he said that "all the best aftermarket parts for the 4G63 are made in MOPAR factories".

The 4G63 was developed solely by Mitsubishi.

Exactally but there controlled with Chrysler branded electronics.

No no no, Chrysler is the parent company. Chrysler owns Plymouth, Jeep, Eagle, Mercedes-Benz, Ram, Mopar, Freightliner, Maybe, Sterling, Western Star, Mitsubishi Fuso, Orion, Thomas, Setra and ummm....dunno what else.

Dan Minick, a columnist for Automotive Rebuilder, pointed out:
The 2.0 blocks [SOHC and DOHC] have the same casting number. There may be machining differences for mounting.
The SOHC cylinder head is only used on the 2.0 SOHC. The DOHC Neon shares a cylinder head with the 2.4. The Avenger/Sebring/Eclipse 2.0 DOHC head is unique and has reversed flow.
The 2.0/2.4 uses the same bore and bore centers as the old 2.2/2.5. There are quite a few similarities with the lower end of the block of the 'new' 2.0/2.4 and the 2.2/2.5. However the cylinder head of the 2.0/2.4 DOHC is an outright copy of the Mitsu 2.0 G63 DOHC, while the SOHC version of the Chrysler 2.0 borrows heavily from Mitsu's early 90s G15 1.5 colt motor.

Some supporting info that some parts may interchange mechanically.

The guy is probably talking about the MOPAR Performance parts that Chrysler used to sell for the talons. I had a MOPAR cat back on my 90 gsx it was a small 2.5 cat back. They also had upgrade kits available for the turbos. These parts are extinct you can not find them new anymore.

I belive I have a 3" MOPAR cat back pulled off a 95 talon awd. Wich I am going to put on my awd. Its not a True 3" cat back it has a resonator then after the resonator it steps up to 3".

No that is actually incorrect.

The reason for that is DaimlerChrysler was founded in 1998 when Mercedes-Benz manufacturer Daimler-Benz (1926–1998) of Stuttgart, Germany merged with the US-based Chrysler Corporation. The deal created a new entity, DaimlerChrysler. However, the buyout failed to produce the trans-Atlantic automotive powerhouse dealmakers had hoped for, and DaimlerChrysler announced on May 14, 2007 that it would sell Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management of New York, a private equity firm that specializes in restructuring troubled companies. On October 4, 2007 a DaimlerChrysler Extraordinary Shareholders' Meeting approved the renaming of the company. From October 5, 2007, the company has been titled Daimler AG. The US company adopted the name Chrysler LLC when the sale completed on August 3, 2007.On April 27, 2009, Daimler AG signed a binding agreement to give up its 19.9% remaining stake in Chrysler LLC to Cerberus Capital Management and pay as much as $600 million into the automaker's pension fund.

Therefore Chrysler Group LLC, and Daimler AG are now 2 different "Parent Companies"

Daimler AG's subsidiaries are Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Smart, Freightliner, 85% Holdings in 85.0% Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation of Japan, Orion International, Western Star, Thomas Built Buses Inc., Sentra, and many others.

Sterling trucks was a subsidiary of Daimler AG, but on On October 14, 2008, Daimler announced plans to discontinue the Sterling product line in an effort to consolidate its North American truck manufacturing operations under the Freightliner and Western Star brands. The company stopped taking orders for new trucks in January 2009, the St. Thomas manufacturing plant closed in March 2009, and the Portland, Oregon, plant is scheduled to close in June, 2010

Chrysler Group LLC 's subsidiaries are Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Jeep, Global Electric Motorcars(GEMCAR), and Mopar. Eagle was discontinued in 1998, Plymouth was discontinued in 2001.

So that's pretty much what Chrysler is actually Reduced to these days.

Your friend is full of it. The fastest 4g63's are made by shops that have the skill to custom fab stuff. We get their awesome tech and parts after they're refined. Just look at the shop cars some of the vendors have.

I did have a old Mopar guy come up to me at a car show tell me to shop up at a local Mopar meet in my Talon though.

isn't chrysler just a cheap shootout of dodge?
kind of the same way that volkswagen is actually porsche

No Chrysler would be = to Porsche and dodge = to VW. Chrysler is the top priced Vehicles in the group. A comparably equipped Chrysler will cost more than its dodge counter part. There are also more options in Chryslers than Dodges. More like Ford to Mercury

If you noticed when Chrysler dropped Plymouth there were only two sports cars left in the line up. Dodge Viper(now in its last year of production) and Plymouth Prowler which became the Chrysler Prowler for a few years before it was discontinued.

The most recent sports car addition was the Chrysler Crossfire(now discontinued). Complete Mercedes car, with new skin and interior and minus the folding hard top(there was also a non convertible hard top available). The supercharged srt6 model was awesome.

Your very confused LOL... Chyrsler owned dodge. VW owns damn near all of Europe. They own Bugatti, Audi, Porshe, ect ect

Go under the hood of a 4g63 DSM and find me one. I've had mine for almost 9 years, and I've never seen one. They either all have a diamond-star branded on them, or Denso. Do you work on your car? These aren't Chryslers. Fvck, man. People will never stop being clowns on this site.

no no no, you are confused as to what i meant as so is the person above you. i did not mean moneywise or performance wise or anything at all like that.
i just simply meant as for (overall) who owns what.

Just as you said "VW owns damn near half of europe" you prove my point right there. According to wikipedia... Volkswagen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Volkswagen (abbreviated VW) is one of the world's largest automobile manufacturers.[1] The company is headquartered in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. Volkswagen is the original marque within the Volkswagen Group, which includes the car marques Audi, Bentley Motors, Bugatti Automobiles, Automobili Lamborghini, SEAT, Škoda Auto and heavy goods vehicle manufacturer Scania.
That right there says that Volkswagen owns Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi and others.

That is what i meant, not that VW is "better" than any of those as you make it sound as i am saying.

What i was saying is just as VW owns those companies... doesn't Dodge actually own Chrysler and Jeep and ect? (or at least at one time did). i may be wrong, that is just what i have been lead to believe. it may be the other way around with chrysler owning dodge... but whatever... i like thinking Dodge first LOL

Thanks for the lesson. I guess it's just one big orgy huh?

There's a lot of stuff going on in this thread, but believe you me as far as Mopar is concerned the 4G63 is all Mitsu. Now if we wanna start talking about the 420a then we're getting warmer.

DENSO is a company that works hand in hand with chrysler corp.

YOU BETTER RESEARCH BEFORE YOU TRY JUMPING THREW THIS HOOP. WATCH WHO YOU TRY TO BASH AS WELL. I DONT TAKE CRAP FROM ANYONE EXPECIALLY NOT PEOPLE WHO THINK THERE ALL BIG AND BAD LIKE YOU DO.

Now go out to YOUR car and look. DENSO STAMPS ON ALOT OF CRAP UNDER THE HOOD, ALSO LOOK AT THE ELECTRICAL SWITCHES AND THE GAUGES IN THE CAR THERE DENSO AS WELL. Now look at a chrysler car. OMFG WHAT DO YOU KNOW. ITS ALL DENSO AS WELL. HMMMM FUNNY RIGHT. YOU SHURE ARE FUNNY TO ME.
