i talked to a buddy about being able to take a honda ecu, do the whole hondata thing, tune with an safc, chrome, fi/c, ems, or some type of stand alone. also using a honda distributer, throttle body, and wiring harness....has anyone heard of this being done?

I think I saw it done, but the question is why? Why mess with hondata (not that there's anything wrong with it) when you have ecmlink already catered to the car?

Our cars distrbuterless and I agree with the other guys, no honda parts except half radiators. I give props for doing different things, but honda....

I'm pretty sure using the throttle body or any of the intake or exhaust system would just restrict flow and cause a power loss. As for the wiring harness why. Waste of time and effort and money when ECMlink can be had for very cheap for everything you get.

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard, and Hondata is way the hell more expensive than Ecm. I have a friend who just bought it for his ep3 and paid $1k and still doesn't have all the sensors he needs. If you didn't already know Honda's are like the #1 most hated car by DSM'ers, I don't think you'll find too much positive feedback here on it.

just trying to consider different options.......however i like your idea of doing all evo parts. You have intrigued me LOL

Its all good, if you want to do it, do it. Like I said, thats the great thing about cars. Individualism. Honda IMO, is the most reliable auto on the planet. My mom had a prelude with 262k on it when she bought it. I rodded the hell out of it, used no oil, we owned it for 5 years, didn't have to do anything to it. It had over 300k on it when we sold it.

Really? My Hondata S300 with everything from Hondata was 595+ shipping. Most hated or not, the guy asked for opinions and stated he is looking at options, and has just gotten a lot of useless "help" and told he's stupid.

To the OP, for the price, it'd just be better to get ECMLink. Much easier to install as you won't need to swap Honda parts over, and is roughly the same price. not to mention, ECMLink has many extra features, and customer support that is top notch.

I'd go ECMLink before going through the hassle to convert everything.

except when it comes to DD, In most cases anyways. I onced used my dsm for a dd, but didn't want to roll the miles on it. Dude just wanted to do something different....why the hell did the other dude want a 2jz motor in a dsm? Just to be different. chill out dude.

thank you TRS i appriciate your help.....and everyone else that wasnt rude

spoolin, if i go the all evo route, what should i do?:hmm:

Well, keep your intercooler, just shorten the route. the evo injectors are rated 560, but are really like 600cc. There is a thread on here for the evo fuel pump swap. Don't get the evo 8 pump, its got a relief valve that opens which prevents psi. Keep in mind, this setup is probably only good for a low 12 or high 11 sec pass. The pump and injectors would run out at about 20-22 psi. If you're looking for 10's, you should go a different route. There is a guy on here, his name is Phil....he's got into the mid 11's on a ported 14BWTF. Just do a little research, and decide what your long term goals is. I want to run all mitsu parts just for reliability and I don't want to go faster than 11's. Plus its different

Not a problem. I looked into doing this too when I first even looked into buying a DSM. I had used Hondata with my turbo Civic and loved it. Hondata was about the same back then as it is now, and at the time had a couple features I liked that DSMLink didn't have. I didn't get too far into the "how-to" however before ECMLink caught up and took over.

Props for doing something different, but unless you're set on just being different ECMLink is probably the way to go for now.

What about the lonely bowling green guy......do you other ky guys hate me cause im rocking a 2g =[

I don't know if i would get into all of that and swapping all of that stuff. But it would be one hella unique car i'd have to say

Hey, no problem. I hope you get it done soon, maybe we can go raise some hell with some v8s hahah. But seriously, if you're wanting 10's or even relaible 11's. I would go a different route than the all evo one. Even though I had a wally pump fail on me, they still make decsent stuff, or you could go with a toyota supra twin turbo denso fuel pump. Alot of different routes to go, just do plenty of research before you buy anything.
