So after an informative lesson at jacks I have come to the conclusion that a bigger turbo may be in my future..

I was trying to make 400hp with my evo III 16g which would be possible (just very tricky) but i found out it would be easier and more safe to jus run a bigger turbo. I don't want a huge turbo because i like the quick spool..So my question is ### are some good mid sized ball berring preferably mitsu flanged turbos?

Also its a street car so would it even be worth it to go tubular exhaust mani?
 
Depends are you looking to keep the tdo5h compressor cover or modify your intercooler piping for a downflow turbo?
There are tons of different turbo choices for many different power levels that can be had with a "bolt-on" turbine housing.
 
Or go for a 20g compressor wheel machined to fit your 1g cover. Jusmx (Justin) can hook you up. I plan to go that route after I bang up my rebuilt 14b courtesy of Jusmx as well.
 
FP green is not BB. But very much capable of meeting your goals.

In case you didnt know, a Green may also be considered a "50 trim"
 
i have a bolt on 60-1. its about as close to a fp red as you can get
 
You can do practically nothing with the 50-trim you have to convert it to BB.

Also take a look at the hx35. I have a gt30r with mitsu hot side that i had in my car with my turbo set up, decided to go with a 16g for now while I get a new turbo kit and change the gt30r hot side to divided t3. I was even thinking about just selling it and going with a gt35r.. but thats an option you can go with a gt30r with mitsu hot side straight bolt on.
 
x2 on Matt's recommendation of the HX35. Fantastic spools, great top end, good for daily driving and it can be modified for direct bolt on. Very inexpensive to obtain as well. Can easily achieve what you want and still have room for more. Last one I tuned made 32psi at just over 4500rpm's. Was making 24 psi on pump around 4000 rpms. That was on a cheap EVO GT manifold. I would recommend coupling the HX35 with an FP Race Manifold and the spool time could decrease.
 
A PTE 5557E would be another nice choice for a fast spooling 400+ Hp turbo.

It is very similar to a 50 trim or an FP Green.

All the turbos mentioned are diesel turbos. the 50-trim the 20g, the fp green/red have both diesel turbines AND compressors. Everything is diesel. The point was to joke about guys not wanting to run a holset or BW turbo because it is a "diesel turbo".

Yes you just need a bolton housing from Bullseye Power or their distributors to get an hx35 on your motor. Even the stock o2 housing bolts on. You do need to dent the water pipe for the compressor housing to clear. But that's it. You will need oil lines like you would with any turbo upgrade.

As for spool time, I'm seeing 20psi by 3500rpms in 3rd gear with a full weight car (weight drastically alters spool because it drastically alters load) with my holset h1c (VERY similar to the hx35). And others have seen similar with the hx35. This is with the evo3 or ported 2g exhaust manifold.

A tubular o2 housing helps spool and is recommended for +400whp goals. And as well an external gate is recommended for this level too. Even with the evo3 16g. At this flow level, the 16g turbo has real problems with boost control. And a bigger turbo needs good flow for low flow moments and good seal for high flow/load.

They are just standard journal bearing. Although they won't "last as long" they last a very long time. And a rebuild for one can be had for around $200. As opposed to a $900 CHRA.

....except it most likely has a smaller (and more restrictive) turbine. Unless your turbo happens to have a T352 (Stage 5) turbine, the FP Red will absolutely stomp it in terms of airflow.

Just because the compressor wheels are the same doesn't mean they're the same turbo.

Fuel type has no relation to how long your turbo lasts.

Tuning, maintanence (oil changes, etc), and how you care for the turbo (no hot shutdown, proper oil pressure and drainage, no surge) has a direct relation to turbo life.

garret rebuilt the turbo. they had some fun with it. they didnt have any 60-1 peices in stock, i guess. before garret got it was a ar. 60 cold side.

That's a pic of a fpred or 60-1 cold side. But the hotside is COMPLETELY different. You're talking about only half of the turbo and not the most important half BTW. Also the centersection is garrett not mitsubishi. The FPred is a VERY different turbo, WRT reliability AND performance. If you have a garrett hotside that flows as much as the mitsu that's on the fpred, then you have about 400rpms more lag.
 
I didnt mean that the fuel effects the life directly i meant that with e85 i'll be able to have higher boost and it will be alot easier on a bb turbo but im between the gt30r and this hx seems kind of interesting
