After a hour or so of trying to read turbo maps, and totally sucking at it, :ohdamn: I have givin up for today. I just want to know what is the minimum boost a Holset 7 blade HX35 would have to be running to get any benefit out of it? Or better yet, A range of boost that the Holset would be good in (like XX psi-XX psi). I know running a big turbo on low boost is not efficient.
If I was planing on running 15psi, I know a big 16 g would be a better choice then a HX35.

If I had to guess the range it would be 23- 34 psi. Close?

Thanks,

Tyler B.

If it were any other turbo I'd say not to buy one unless you're ready to run 20psi, however the HX35 is so responsive that even at lower boost levels (under 20psi) it's still going to spool quickly and move a decent amount of air.

Here's some food for thought....a buddy of mine was running a TD05H 20G at around 25psi on his full-weight 2G for a while. In search of a little more power, I set him up with a Turbonetics cast manifold and a Holset HY35. With the HY35, his car trapped 3mph faster and two tenths quicker in the 1320 at just 17psi.

Not to hijack but where can you buy these turbos ready to bolt onto the 2g. I searched but only find dodge stuff:banghead:

Finding Dodge stuff is what you need. Holset is Cummins turbo division, and therefore almost all Cummins engines run Holset turbos. The Cummins in Dodge trucks are simply the most common source for the awesome turbos.

Find a good used Holset from a Dodge truck, buy a matching exhaust manifold and your set :thumb:

Do you have some type of goal for the car at a given psi? Is this going to be your daily driver or weekend/track car?
If you plan on running less than 20psi, there are other choices of turbos I'd recommend.
Care to share the rest of supporting mods you will be running?

I wanna get an hx35 but wanna run low boost.... what would be a better option if i wanna run like 15 psi daily and maybe have a boost controller so i can change it to like 22 or something.

waht would be a better option.
my mods are.
stock 6bolt rebuild,
1g head, ig 1ntake, 2g ehaust mani, 1g TB, FMIC with hard uipc and licp, and all supporting fuel mods for tubro
waht would be a better option for a similar price?
my goal is up to 400whp but would like to run a little over 300 daily.

Let me add you want to find a 12v 94-98.5 Dodge Ram Cummins. Those are the exact years with the Hx35.

The exact years for an hx35 with an 8-blade compressor wheel, yes.
The 7-blade variants went from 98.5-02.
And also the Wh1c made in late 94-95, uses the exact compressor as the 8-blade hx35 but uses a v-band clamp to attach the compressor cover.

Check the Holset threads for flow numbers. The 7-blade will flow more, but the 8-blade is usually found cheaper just because of its age.
