1G Minimum alternator wiring

What is the minimum wiring needed for the alternator on a 1g. Do I need the "L" & "S" terminals at all. The description in the FSM is not very clear on what they are responsible for except for the dash light which I don't care about.

This is for a stripped track only car. Had an engine fire and trying to repair the harness and eliminate anything unnecessary.

I think you misunderstand. The L circuit with the dash light provides the initial current to starting the alternator up just like it says in the FSM. You don't have to do it via the gauge cluster if you keep the alternator "relay" to provide the initial current. The "S" is for the regulator to sense the battery voltage.

So yes, you should provide the L and S wiring.
