ok im relatively new to the whole turbo scene...ive gotta 93 eclipse nt and am looking to build a turbo kit for it. i know what all i need and everything, thats not the problem. ive gotta question concerning boost levels and wastegates. until i can build my bottom end(which i know everyone is going to say build it first...but oh well), i only wanna run like 4-5 psi on my stock internals as its my daily driver. my question is, ive heard the stock wastegate on the 14b only allows a minimum of like 7-8psi?? how would i be able to run lower boost like 4-5psi if this is true? i know i could install an external wastegate but i dont really wanna do that so is there any other way? if i would happen to install an external gate though, how would i go about closing off/disabling the internal gate?? any tips or advice would be great.

thanks

An external wastegate is, unfortunately, your only option unless you can modify the internal wastegate actuator (which is a sealed unit).

You can disable the internal gate by welding the flapper or another small piece of steel to the wastegate hole.

hrmm...that kinda sucks, well, i guess maybe ill just build my bottom end this summer and turbo next summer...then i dont need to worry about boost, i could run 10-12psi and be completely happy :). im in college so money isnt very plentiful :(
