I know it's a 3G, so NOGAF, but I figured I would share with you guys what the stock motor on these cars is capable of. This motor was pulled from a junkyard with about 70k miles on it and I've had it boosted in my car for about 3.5 years now. For the first 3 years, one of my injectors wasn't wired into the resistor box (not my own doing) and was causing random misfires in cylinder 1, but it's fixed now and still holding strong.

I think if I fixed up some boost leaks, turned up the boost a bit, and got a professional tune, I could push this setup further into the 12s, and maybe come close to tapping into the 11s, but I may never know; I'm thinking about tearing it apart this winter and starting something new. Anyways, here's the vid:

That's pretty impressive considering there aren't many people building 3g's.

Thanks! There's actually quite a few turbo 3Gs running around these days, but a lot of them are hackjobs and very few of them push the motor to its full potential.

Disclaimer: I'm not a huge advocate of the 4G64 or anything... the SOHC head is pretty crappy and I'm considering doing a motor build with a 4G63 head this winter. But I've had a lot of people tell me that the 4G64 is weak and can't handle any amount of boost, so I wanted to prove those theories wrong.

I laugh at the people who say the 4G64 is weak and can't handle boost. They are obviously morons. Block cast the same way. Exact same rods as the 4G63T. Crank is made of the exact same materials and process. The pistons are higher CR, but there is no proof that they aren't made through the exact process as a 63 piston.

We boosted a SOHC 4G64 and it's running 10 lbs. all day with no issues. How did you resolve the higher temperature issues with boosting it?

I haven't ever had any temperature issues with my setup, actually. I'm still using the stock thermostat (200*F), but because my manifold is custom, I was able to keep my stock radiator and both stock fans. The only temp issue I had was my throttle cable was sitting a little too close to my exhaust mani and it began to melt on the 7-hour trip back from the DSM Shootout this year LOL

You, sir, have the coolest 3g that I've ever seen!

Thank you!! :)

We are running 200 to 212° water temps, we understand they will be higher due to stroke, but we want to drop it into the 190° range. What temps are you running?

Not entirely sure, I can pull up some logs when I get home from work. But IIRC, I rarely see my temp rise above 204

That is a sweet 3G!

My mom has a 3G and have a spare T-25 ... hmm ... I wonder if she'll mind if I turbo charge it? :)

Not trying to thread jack but could you put an evo head on a 3g 4g64 block cause I read that you could use the blocks in evos

That throttle cable was NBD. After all, you did gain 50whp from Jason lending you the cable off of Lil Evo.

Yep, that would definitely be part of the motor build if I decide to go through with it!

ROFL Funny how one of the fastest cars representing Wisconsin this year is also the one that's always donating parts to the ones that break :p

Voodoo! I saw thevideo before your profile and I was like wtf? That's voodoos 3g. Nice to see more c3g guys over here

Hey if you know anyone looking for an excellent condition 4G64 crank, let them know I have one for $150.00 shipped or $100.00 picked up. Yes shipping it is that much. :(

Are the 4g64s in the 3g the same as the ones out of the 2g spyder gs? I know the block orientation is different, i mean material wise.

Also, how much boost are you running?

Never thought id be saying this but: Nice 3g!

Thanks guys! Jwahl, didn't you used to be a 3G guy? There was someone over on the 3G forums named jwahl with a boosted 3G I think, must have been a different person. Boost was at about 15-16 psi on a Precision SC61. I'm not coming anywhere near realizing the full potential of that turbo, but I wanted some room to grow in case I build a motor that can handle it

Hey guys, long time lurker haha, I had to post on this since I'm running a DOHC converted 7bolt 4g64 with the stock bottom end in my 1g Laser. I've really been curious to how far I can safely push it with a good tune.

Reading across other forums I've only been able to find unreliable info of "300-350hp max" but this is true proof to me. Keep us updated please!

I'd really like to get it on a dyno just to see what it puts down, I'm really curious too. But I've been so lazy lately with fixing up some of the minor issues it has and I haven't been driving it. I don't know how much longer the snow will hold off in WI but it's getting to be about the time where I need to start thinking about putting it away for the winter.

But here's a graph I made with the Virtual Dyno software. Not sure how accurate is because of how jumpy AEM logs can be sometimes... but it's gotta be relatively close:

Not sure why boost falls off so severely on the top end, but I know I have some boost leak(s) and I haven't had a good chance to sit down and take care of them.

Not a whole lot man. Whats been going on in the 3g scene, I haven't checked in some time. Is Slavas car complete yet? And yes, I am originally from MN but I moved for school a while back. But I'm moving back to MN at the end of December once I graduate. Gotta get back to work on my gsx haha
