mice = fuel pump issues

hi everyone. first post here but i have been around cars for years (primarily hondas)

my mother has a 97 gst with about 4k miles on it (yes 4k), which had been in storage for awhile. last year we went to finally pull it out and it would not start. it had spark, and could hear the fuel pump finish its cycle whenever i stopped cranking the motor.

i eventually found that the wiring on the injector side of the resistors had been chewed up by mice. once i got this put back together the motor fired and ran for about 3 seconds and died. it would not restart. i then noticed that the fuel pump was no longer cycling, so i figured the motor fired for the 3 second bc of previously built fuel pressure and died bc the pump was no longer operating. long story short i ran a jumper wire to the fuel pump to run it and the motor fired and ran fine and i drove the car to her house this way.

i looked at this all a few weeks ago so i honestly do not remember what checked out, i am going to go back into the car this week and try to find the issue, but i have to believe that if the mice chewed the resistor wiring than they may have chewed something else and i may have bumped it or otherwise disturbed a wire(s) that were barely making contact and were allowing the fuel pump to cycle.

i know the ecm/ecu controls the fuel pump operation as a matter of safety in these cars. my main question is what sensors/inputs does the ecu in particular rely on to determine whether to cycle the pump? if i know this than i can start eliminating possible wiring issues since im all but certain this is related to the presence of the mice.

diagrams are a plus as well

thanks

follow up

i went ahead and soldiered all the damaged wires i could find today. again the car cranks but will not start unless i run battery voltage to the fuel pump. i removed the panel on the center console to access the two relays. the mpfi relay is clicking and working properly. the fuel pump relay is not working. the relays are both good. there is no ground continuity to the white/red wire which i believe goes to the ecu and ground out the relay to make it work. what should i be checking here guys???

and again

just found that the knock sensor wire is damaged as well. i am not going to be able to fix that today, but i would like to know if the knock sensor not being connected would cause the ecu to not run the fuel pump as a safety precaution in the boosted model? anyone know this?!?

the knock sensor would not cause your fuel pump to not function

thats what i figured but i wasnt sure if with the oem turbo their was some strange safety on that

the question stands though what sensor or sensors besides the cam angle sensor would stop the ecu from sending the ground signal to the fuel pump relay???
