Toronto,
Okay boyz and girlz, got the megasquirt fired up today and decided I was extremely happy and wanted to let everyone on the site know, how much you are all appreciated.

I'll be tuning tomorrow, and hopefully on the dyno as well if its available.

I still have a lot more reading and research to get done, but for now its celabration time.

It's about time LOLz...all those old posts about greddy this, emanage that hahaha, it was just a matter of time before you joined the force ROFL

hey awesome Randy! (I wussed out and bought a portfueler the other day, LOL) Please do take some pics of the real time displays on your laptop and let us know some before and after results. SAweet!

well I better locate my digi cam.....dyno time is scheduled for High noon.

My buddy has tuned about 12 megasquirt cars, and I've had the pleasure of tuning a couple cars myself, learned a little when I helped out "xcerler8" tune his 2gnt with megasquirt, so hopefully me and the mad scientist can crank out some good numbers, if not at least a daily driver that I can tweak later.

Good news now you can come do mine!! I just got my car fired up yesterday from the rebuilt, breaking in the engine(E-manage) then switching to my squirt thats just sitting and waiting for me to install it! Let us know how the dyno turned out. How long was your install time?

Okay here is what I got so far.

On the hottest day ever for this day in seattle (about 100degrees, perfect for a dyno day)....I managed to put down

275.5whp and 280lbs-tq at around 16psi with a duty cycle thats pretty up there on my 550cc's (about 85-90%)

That was with no correction for air temp, and on a dyno dynamic, had the day been cooler like it normally is and the correction factor been on like its supposed to be, your supposed to add 15% to what you got. So a little closer to 300whp.

I'm really happy with what I got because If I had bigger injectors and ran the 20psi I most likely would have hit my main goal.

The problems I have now are my coolant temps keep sky rocketing, (looks like I need to do that headgasket after all).

My idle is up and around 1500-2000rpms but we are working on that. Any suggestions?

So in due time I should be going up in the power ranges, sorry I couldn't do it sooner guys.

Not bad I was hoping you would get bigger numbers for the 550's bc thats what im running aswell, getting bigger injectors? SO how long was the install on the squirt, bc I need to plan for another vehicle while I do mine.

Excellent start Rand :thumb: . Yeah, pretty heavy duty cycle. Don't want to be up there. Next step, 880's or so (MSnS can handle it. Oh no wait, next step HG!). Whatcha' doing for AFR's? Timing at idle around 10 to 14 range? Kpa's? I'm sure you did your required fuel properly. TPS adjusted? Just throwing some stuff out.

I've been lucky. I haven't had to play much with idle. Stockers :coy:

Don't forget to post your MSQ when all is said and done! I think I'm going to start a repository on symtechlabs.com where everyone can upload and download their MSQs to share with others.

All this talk of MSnS-E has really urged me to finish my own project. I'm trying to make a PnP harness so the install will be easier for others.

Well, I was hoping for bigger numbers off the bat as well, I still believe I can get get to 300whp on these injectors. However those of you who are looking for more, according to the calculations I did for our motors, It looks like it would take about 800cc injectors to get to 400bhp at an 80% duty cycle with the stock fuel pressure.

And ajax, plan on having alternate methods of transportation for at least 2 to 3 weeks. Due to work schedules and researching during the project, it took a little longer to install then I expected. I'm sure it can be done in a shorter amount of time, however I feel you should plan to ahead that things won't fire up correctly right away and if you don't have access to a dyno, it might take you a few tries before your actually driving your car from place to place.

I'm giving your timing idea a shot, and it helped a bit, I had my timing down at 7-10 at idle, so I just raised it up a little. Now it idles better but at lik 1100-1500rpms, so I figure I have to adjust the throttle plate stop, or the tps screw to get it to go back down.

I'm working on a couple different things with my current map. I'm concentrating on intown crusing, so that the car doesn't buck as much when your off the throttle, My issue anywhere below 3000rpms when it does this around 30-40mph at about 0-5% throttle ('ll look up the map numbers later)

But I will post it sooner rather than later with what I've got so far.

And yes Paul, hurry up and get yours DONE!

:p

Anyways here is some video footage of my dyno day, because I couldn't find my digi cam (which I later found under the passenger seat)

Okay and I have a question about the stock fuel presssure.....I do understand the difference between static fuel pressure and idle fuel pressure. My current setup has my STATIC fuel pressure set at 43.5...does this match up to the stock settings?

Congrats Rand! I'm glad to see you got the MSnS running well. Those numbers aren't looking too bad at all either. Props bro. :thumb:

I do have a couple questions for you though. I am planning to take my car up to Boston for MSnS install and tuning. I will be on the dyno more then anything. I'm a little hesitant about the car AFTER I get back home.

Is it practical/realistic to diagnose and fix any problems while I'm up there? Is it an ongoing tune that takes alot of time even AFTER you manage some dyno pulls?

Basically, I'm worried about tuning and taking my car up there. Then when I get home, driving from A to B under daily driving conditions, my car starts screwing up. THAT's what I'm worried about. Because I can't just drive back up to Boston for the fix. Basically, is there any way i can avoid little but real problems even after tuning? I'm having Matt Denton of Denton Motorsports (thanks again Bullett) do the tuning. But I'm just apprehensive of the little things ( bucking like you mentioned, etc) plauging me right after I journey home...

really man just take the time to do some reading, and you'll be able to play around with the megasquirt yourself or with a buddy riding shot gun. (or let him drive and you tune)....The main megasquirt site has a really good write up on tuning the megasquirt and really helps you get a feel for what your doing.

When you get off the dyno, ask the tuner if you can drive down the road and make some last minute adjustments before you take off...just cruise around at 30-40mph with low/no throttle and do the same at 60-70mph on the freeway if he has time, if not its not that hard to make changes in realtime. (just let someone else drive)

What I've been doing is since I know my tuner personally, is I tell him whats going on and what I want to fix, and I send him my msq via email, he makes a few changes (nothing durastic) and sends it back to me with some tips on what he did and what I should continue to try to do.

Trust me man, you will feel alot better when you start pushing the (shift &up arrow buttons) for yourself.

Just keep a basemap of the dyno tune, and work it from there, if the car doesn't like it, just burn the old table back onto it

I love realtime on-the-fly tuning...I do a pull, and I tell my buddy to watch the 3d ve map. Tell me where it went, ok shift up, shift up, and shift down that cell haha...then have another go at it!

OK. So if I E-mail him my set-up, is there anyway HE can adjust it from up there, while I'm back home? I don't think that's possible, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

I never really thought of that idea though. I could probably do it myself once I get home if he can e-mail me what to do or what to adjust. Can't be too hard.

What are you using for the tune display? Standard monitor, or MSnS megaview(?)? I have a built in monitor on my spare dashboard( fiberglassin- still work in progress) so I figured I could use that to view those things. Or do you need a specific application compatible with the MSnS software?

MegaTune (Windows based), MegaTunix (Unix/Linux/MacOS based) or PalmEdit/PalmLog (PalmOS based) are the only software options you'll need. As long as you have a device that can run one of those, you'll be set.

Not to sound like a commercial and speak for Matt, but;

Normally, Matt will include a "street" tune after the dyno. He will take you out on the street to find any "problem" areas. He has done a very thorough job with me and others.

In addition...damn, I just thought I should go PM with the rest of this.

Oh yeah, X, I wish I could get the hang of that 3d map. You got any advice on that? It looks so cool, LOL!

You'll have to go to a file hosting site like Putfile. I can also host it on symtechlabs.com if you e-mail it to me.
