My head was milled (stamped at 012) and my mechanical timing won't line up. Would adjustable cam gears help me get my timing correct?

Regardless if the head was milled you should still be able to get the timing marks to line up. Having all the proper tools to do it helps a lot too if your trying to do it without them. Just keep trying until they line up. How far off is it?

No adjustable cam gears will not help! They adjust to advance or retard timing not so you can change the timing points. How are you installing belt? Are you using the jay racing tools if not I highly suggest getting and using them!! You have to start with that cam gears then work over oil pump then crank then tensioner.

Cam timing marks should still be perfect. In extreme cases the crank could be just a touch off. I got a head that's extremely close to service limit and my crank timing mark is just slightly off. The point is still pointing into the "V" but its not perfectly centered. Always drives me nuts haha.

If your talking about the cam gear marks they don't line up perfectly across all 4 marks on the gears. The 2 marks between the cams are all you need to look at. The outside marks are only there because the gears can be used in either cam so marks are on both sides.

The can marks will line up but the crank will be less than half of a tooth off.

I've timed the car with just about any method you can think of, and all of the marks won't line up perfectly no matter how I do it.

It is because the cam marks aren't lined up properly. Do as I said, roll the exhaust cam one tooth clockwise and them roll the intake and exhaust gears with the belt counter clockwise to lone the marks up. You can have the exhaust gear new tooth off either way and the cam gears will look to be lined up, but it will be too high or too low. This will throw the crank and oil pump sprocket off a half a tooth.

Its less than half a tooth...

That's what's been keeping me from buttoning her up. It's driving me insane. Thanks for all the input.

Its good I wouldn't worry about it and there's nothing you could do to fix it anyway! Are you going off the white marks or the groves in the cam gear? Except that the belt isn't in the groove properly!! You need to get the belt right up top first and lock it down with something so it can't move! Then put the belt on the rest of the way and you should be good bro!

The timing marks are suppose to be flush with the top of the cylinder head (valve cover gasket surface) with the dowl pins up. To insure I'm in the right spot I mark the back side of the cam gear where it's closer to the gasket surface on the head. You can extend that surface closer to the head with a piece of stiff tape or anything that will stay straight. I've held the cams in the correct position by using two combo wrenches on the cam gear nuts and wired them together. Once you get the top of the timing belt on, hold it there using binder clips or spring clamps. Once the belt is clamped on its not moving. All the marks should be right on the money if you're on the right position on the cam. You have to get this part right.
