Ok, I didn't #### with the blance shaft belt, because I'm only doing the timing cuz i have to put in a new water pump. Yes, I ####ed up and didnt put on in a year ago when i did the 60k mile maintenance.. anyways, now I put the t-belt back on and the top 2 camshafts match up on every revolution of the crank, but even after 6 turns the bottom marks dont line up. do i just have to reposition the crank to the timing mark and then that will be TDC? and then position the other sprockets (oil pump, etc) to line up. And then go ahead and throw the t-belt back on and make sure it doesnt skip a tooth or someting.... or is my problem with the balance shaft belt? I didn't think it would be necessary to touch the balance shaft belt considering it didnt need to be replaced.. any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been working on the project for 7+ hours and would like to have it completed tomorrow.. thanks in advance :)

i had the same problem with my 1.8 laser i would set the timing marks up exactly and then it would be off, you really need to check the balance shaft cuz thats what was throwing mine off, does the car run? if not then its probably the balance shaft. check the balance shaft timing and try again. and make sure your tensioners still good, did you change that at the 60k? or now with the new t-belt?

here's something you could try... pull your spark plugs out, and insert a very long screwdriver down to touch the #1 piston, find the spot where it would be at TDC and check your timing mark(s). if its at TDC and the crank timing mark is right but the cams are off, pull the t-belt and reset the cams. Check it out and report back :)
