ok n00b question here.. i got my MBC all hooked up fine (dejon tool.. sweet!) i'm just wondering what to do with the stock boost solenoid hoses.. i took the top one completely off (this is the one that was going to my intake pipe.. then capped that nipple on the pipe) .. the one on the bottom, that tees off and goes to both the wastegate and the turbo housing, is still there. i just bent it backwards and stuck it in the bracket that the top hose was at.. its still connected to the solenoid though. is this alright? can i leave it on there like that will it screw anything up?
 
I thought I could tune the car with the mbc to wich ever setting felt the fastest. The next 50 dollars i get my hands on will definatly go towards the boost guage.......



In the meantime, while i am waiting is their any thing I can do to help performance or possibly some thing i could have done wrong to make it boost like crap? I also noticed it takes longer for boost to kick in when the ball and spring is in. The boost will turn on at 2500, but the needle doesn't peek until about 3800, with out the ball and spring in it goes full boost any thing passed 2500 rpm's. Is this normal behavior for a mbc?
 
dude plug in the stock boost control solenoid, OR and i actually agree with the ladder statement here... close the hood... lock the doors... and do lots of research etc, or sell the car to someone who will
 
hey guys, i just wanna see where ppl tapped in to put their mbc's. pics preferably, mine was on my stock lower intercooler pipe, but now i custome built pipes, so i need a new place. thanks.
 
I would tell you to just hook it up to your wastegate actuator. Sorry, my gallery is pretty janky right now or I would send you there.
 
I am getting ready to install my Hallman Pro MBC. The instructions that came with it said to use the turbo compressor housing for my boost source. I've done some searching on here and VFAQ and I see a lot of people use the line comming off of the top of there BOV. Which is better to use and why? Thanks!
 
im using the bov line - just had better luck with it.
Most hard core people would prob say dont use either and use another source.
 
I like teeing into the BOV or the FPR/solenoid line.

Reason being: if you use the compressor housing line and shift, when the throttle plate closes, there will be pressure in the line (until the BOV vents) even though the intake manifold had vaccuum for that same amount of time. This will keep your wastegate open between shifts, which somewhat slows down spool by the time you hit the next gear.
 
i would suggest the compressor housing and not the BOV line. less vaccum line equals better control. so basically, but it as close to the WG and the compressor housing as possible. most dont have problems T-ing into the BOV line and then the WG...but i prefer running it off the compressor housing and WG. i believe in using the least line possible, less pressure drop, more accuracy, better tuning IMO

Does that mean you tried it connected to the compressor housing? What kind of difference did you notice between the two. Thanks for the info guys keep it comming. I really only want to do this once.
 
Alright I installed my MBC tonight. When I went to install it I saw that I had connected the lower nipple of my Greddy Type S BOV with a T to the compressor nipple, so I decided against adding a second T there for the MBC. When I first drive it I was boosting 10 lbs, I adjusted it a half turn a couple times and now I think I'm at 11 lbs. I decided to call it a day and I'll finish tuning it tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

got it hooked up right. It seemed to work for a few min but then it was like it stoped working. We believe it to be a faulty boost controler. Going to get a better one. can anyone recomend a decent one?


also.

We couldnt figure out how to get the vacum line to hook into the back of the boost gaguge. We bought some cheapo kit from Auto Zone.
 
I recently got a joe p to replace my turboxs standard and I'm extremely happy with it. Also the fact that it was about 50% cheaper makes me regret not getting one to begin with.
 
Yes you have to do it. You'll have a boost leak off the turbo and unfiltered air from teh canister if you don't plug them. Just do it.
 
is it possible to install the MBC this way? Also what restrictor is this daigram talking about? I want to do it this way so I dont need to cap off the air can nipple and j pipe nipple.

from the looks of that diagram, the mbc would serve no purpose, as the pressurized air would reach the wastegate actuator throught the tee, with no restriction, so you would be stuck with whatever boost the wastegate is set at. The mbc acts as a basic blockoff between the compressor outlet and the wastegate actuator, basically tricking the wastegate actuator into seeing no boost until x psi is reached, at which point the valve in the mbc opens and allows the wastegate to be opened. You don't need any of the extra vaccum lines going to the aircan. Simply plug the nipples on that, and run a vaccum line from the compressor outlet to your mbc's inlet nipple. Then run another piece of vaccum line from the mbc outlet to the wastegate actuator. Start with your mbc all the way out, and increase it a half turn at a time until you get close to your desired psi, then switch to 1/4 or 1/8 turns until you get it dialed in exactly where you want it in 3rd or 4th gear, where the load is higher and the turbo has enough time to build full boost.
