Ok...I finally finished rebuilding my motor and getting it back into the car, along with putting on a new stage 3 xtd clutch/flywheel combo. Along with that, I had a leaky slave cyl. that I replaced. I installed the motor, bled the clutch, and fixed other problems I ran into. I drove the car, and it drove smooth and pulled hard, but I had a leak on the outer casing of my transmission. The clutch also wouldn't engage any farther than halfway off the floor. I went to adjust it, and found it to already be on some of the last threads from the last owner so I couldn't adjust it any farther without me feeling like it would screw itself up. It went into gear fairly well, but wasn't always completely smooth. BUT, since the outer casing was leaking I pulled it off, cleaned it and waited for everything to dry, applied RTV, and did everything exactly how the VFAQ stated and now Ive run into some problems. ALSO, I used the 80-90w gear oil that the VFAQ recommended. Now the car will shift pretty smooth as long as I am accellerating, but does not like going into gear from the start. I can hold it as if I am going to shift to 1st/reverse and start to slip the clutch/apply gas like you would to accelerate, and it will shift to gear and start moving. I have a very minimal ammt. of fluid on the push rod for the piston on the Master Cylinder on the inside of the car. Im trying to determine if its the gear oil weight (I am using cheap stuff right now as the tranny fluid was in it from japan and I wanna get all that crap out before I put in syncromesh) or if its the master cylinder, or a combo, or something else. The clutch never loses any/much/noticible pressure no matter how long it sits so I dont think I have a leak in the line. Now that I have written a novel...hopefully its enough information for someone to help me as I would REALLY like to start driving my car but dont really trust driving too far if it could be a master cylinder. Thanks!

Actually, it shifts great throughout all gears, it was just a pain to go into 1st or reverse from a stand still, or any other gear when decelerating, but it turned out I had a VERY small leak coming from the slave where the clutch line meets up. It wasn't coming from the line, but the housing??? for the line on the slave. I didn't tighten it at all when I got it from the factory, but I tightened it up some and it shifts fine...I dont know how I missed it the other night...Oh well. AND what I thought was a leak from the master (because it looked wet) was actually just streaked dirt and the way I hit the rod with the flashlight didn't help either I guess. Thanks a ton though!

LOL...Ive heard way too many things negative about the longer pushrods to even consider one honestly. BUT I did have one final question...Although I fixed the leak on the slave, I found a rattle coming from the trans. It wasn't there before I went to fix the leak on the outer casing of the trans so I took it apart again. Aparently, I didn't put the Wave spring and whatever bronze gear mechanizm it touches back on properly and the gear piece slipped and started to get chewed up. I need to replace this piece, but the person at the parts counter at the dealership is completely lost about what it is. The best way I can describe it is it looks like a bronze "Sun"...the way you would draw it in elementary school...with the triangles around the circle. It rests on the end of the TOP gearset and is visible when you go to the VFAQ site and look at the 1g shifter movement fix. ANY help on figuring out what this part is called would be GREATLY appreciated!

I had the same problem too. Seems when i press the clutch to engage either 1st or reverse it doesn't want to go into gear. Sometimes it would grind or pop out of the gear. I checked where the master clutch cylinder was and found out the bastard was leaking. I replaced it with a new one and its been shifting better than ever!
