Hey guys. Recently my GSX got rod knock and I cant afford to do too much with it at all. I found a 97 TSi AWD auto trans that I would rather buy and am wondering what all I would need off my GSX to convert the TSi to a 5-spd? I tried doing a search but couldnt find anything... Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

if you want a drag car, keep it auto..but if you want manual, will need the 5 speed tranny, clutch, flywheel, t-case, 5 speed rear diff, and all the shifter cables from the manual and speed sensors are different too. some wires would have to be fabbed up. maybe the gauge cluster from the maunal...thats all i got off the top of my head. good luck

Swap the motor from the Talon into your GSX. Slowly fix the rod knocked motor, put it in the talon, sell the Talon.

Unless the Talon looks better than the GSX

Wow thanks guys. That is definately alot to take out LOL. Can i take all of that out and the GSX still be a rolling chassis? I would need it to be so I could just get it towed away. The TSi cosmetically looks better than the GSX due to the fact that my GSX is in full primer and has had ALOT of body work done to it. Anyways, I still plan on yanking out all the good parts that I can resell or reuse. I have no resources to swap motors or finances to pay a garage to do so. I just want to know what I would need for the tranny swap so when I can afford to either do it or get it done I will have everything already

Yes it will still be in rolling chassis. Its a decent amount of work. A engine hoist is the only real special tool you need to swap motors. If you never turned a wrench before then i would not attempt it or get some buddies that are familiar with cars.

ok awesome. yes I do alot of wrench turning actually. Mostly bolt on things though. I have done an engine swap before in my 93 GS that I had and ran into so many issues with bolts breaking among other things. I wish I had some people local to help me that knew what they were doing with DSMs. Only reason I asked about a rolling chassis is because I never tore out a drivetrain entirely so I wanted to just be sure. Thanks for all of the input so far, I really do appreciate it =)
