I have a 92 Talon TSi just added a Evo3 16g and 560 evo8 injectors. My auto ECU has died on me. I was wondering if a manual EPROM ECU will directly fit? If so, what wires do I connect to make the car think the clutch is engaged to run it in my auto?

Any advice please help thanks. I'm new as my status indicates if there is a thread on this already please point me in the right direction. :ohdamn:

From what has been explained to me is the ECU has nothin to do with the tranny. It has a TCU just to control it. If you have the TCU installed and hooked up you have nothing else to do.

The only difference between the auto ECU and the manual ECU is that the auto's come with 390cc injectors stock, so that ECU is programed for 390's. The manual ECU is set up for 450's. So even if you swap in the manual ECU, and add the 560cc, you still need something to tune the car with like DSMLink, SAFC/logger combo or at least a MAF-Translator to compensate for the 560cc injectors.

Or if you got a EPROM ECU, get a chip for your setup from dsmchips.

I have an AFC the old style (single knob) it's a budget build so don't judge me for paying 30 bucks for a AFC just to help compensate my 560's I ain't looking to make 400hp just a nice dd with some power my car's AWD so I have a trans lab shift kit to install for the firm shifts.

I do know the car has a seperate computer called a TCU I was just wondering if any other things needed to be done to put the ECU in thanks, it is an EPROM at that MD193299.

Another question do the leaking caps infect the TCU as well as the ECU's?

805dsm is totally correct on the injector size difference between the manual and auto ECU. You will need something like SAFC2 to tune the car.

Nothing wrong with a budget build. Since you got the AFC, you should invest on a logger and a wideband to tune it and monitor your AFR's.

Yes the TCU's do suffer of leaky caps just like the engine ECU.

There are far more important differences in the programming between the auto and manual ECUs than the the injector size.

Since the auto runs a higher base fuel pressure their injectors pretty much flow 390cc/min. The lower base fuel pressure on the manuals cause those 450 injectors to actually flow about 411cc/min. The 20cc/min difference is minor.

The automatic code has provisions for dealing with the loading a automatic puts on the engine when switching in and out drive that the manual cars don't. I feel it makes enough difference in driveability that I use the E932A code as a base when making chips for autos.

Another question does the leaking caps infect the tcu as well as the ecu's.

Both the ECUs and TCUs suffer from the same capacitors leaking. The difference is you can usually repair the damage to the ECU when they leak where the TCUs have a very high risk of destroying themselves. You shouldn't wait for symptoms before replacing the original caps on either but the on the TCU is critical that they be replaced before they fail.

My first ECU purchase off eBay was successful and it worked in my car as it was the same MD # my car came with. Then it was idling for about 20 minutes then died then it made clicking and stalling then one morning it didn't wanna fire, no CEL light for the 4 second, no clicking of the fuel pump relay nada.

I replaced the cap's and still no fire nothing. I am willing to say its pooched or could it be the 560's tripping the ECU to no put fuel due to the ECU being programmed for 390's?

It was odd, no burnt traces or anything on the board but there was leakage of the caps to the plug ins for the harness so I'm thinking it fried over nite.

Any insight on getting a reliable manual trans EPROM ECU?

What's the capacitor size in the TCU? I read somewhere it has one. I just wondering, and seeing how I am installing a translab shift kit the TCU is just there to switch the gears correct, so wouldn't the manual ECU be a better upgrade than the auto version?

Just getting some knowledge, so I don't have to back track.

I have sent out my ECU to ECMTuning but, I didn't request Dave. Is he the best I'm assuming? Hope they can help me out seeing its an auto ECU. Should I have the EPROM socketed while it's there if they can diagnose and fix it?
