Magnus IMF cracked, sending it in.

Called up Magnus and they said if I send the Intake in, they will repair it free of charge so that's a sweet deal. They also told, me they have a deal going on, where they can give me $200 credit, and a fuel rail towards a new cast intake.

Think its a good deal, or should this cut it?

The new cost about 800 last I checked. And your old one will probably be ok might not look that nice after repair but it ain't nothing some nice powder coating won't solve.

Get it repaired, sell it for more than $200, outright buy the new cast at it's current cost, which can be had cheaper from ExtremePSI than buying direct from Magnus. Done.

Got the manifold back on, unfortunately it was a pain in the Ass to get on because the flange that meets the cylinder head, had warped and made it extremely hard to get on without cross threading the bolts. I also still have 2 pin hole leaks coming from where they re welded it. I'm only testing for 20 lbs whats the deal? Are these not meant to handle just 20 LBS?

Nah man that's an issue. I would contact them again and see what's up. I'm sure you could run it like that but (as you know) you really want no leaks at all in the system.

I got it back around the 10th of January, and I just emailed them, I'll see what they say.

They have stopped production of the sheet metal intake manifolds because they were having so many problems and they also have the new cast manifolds for both the 1g and 2g. If I were you I would take them up on their offer for the $200 credit towards the new cast manifold. You will never have any issues with the cast intake manifold, never ever.

Just be courteous when they respond. They kinda have you by the balls right now depending on how they want to be. I'd explain that you've been without the car now for over a month and the manifold was not fixed. Tell them you would be glad to buy a new cast manifold from them for $400 off and not throw in the fuel rail. If you talk to someone at the top who is managing things, he might see what happened as unacceptable and feel bad for you and negotiate a deal. If you have other products from them maybe you can say you're a long time customer of theirs. Maybe also explain that you started a thread on here vouching for their quality of work and they did not deliver. Since this is on the internet anyone can see it and it puts their reputation on the line. I've always heard their good guys to deal with and if you catch them on a day they aren't super busy and stressed out to finish something by a deadline then they might be more eager to focus their attention on getting this issue resolved for you. Just my 2 cents Just be careful and tactful with how you word your response. You have to be able to provoke just the right emotions for them to feel bad and want to do something they wouldn't normally do for others.

I mean I'm not bashing them I'm just curious, because I spent upwards of 75 USD to ship it to them, and I still have leaks and came back warped. I mean that includes shipping suplies but still.

Yea I wouldn't be happy! With that said be honest with them and maybe they will cut another $70 off the cost for a new one to cover your shipping.

Was this manifold bought cracked? And how old is it? They already went out of their way to repair an old manifold thats been through unknown conditions for free. The credit was just icing on the cake.

Something sounds fishy about this whole thing.

I use the same intake manifold for 8 years & never had any problem, boosting 42 psi dd & went on occasions 50 psi, still ok no cracks.

It makes me wonder where it cracked or what caused it to crack. Boost pressure shouldn't blow up a welded intake manifold, this isn't fast n furious. The picture posted doesn't show where the crack was.

I do agree that it's not acceptable to not test your work. That would be like me working a customer's ticket at work and sending it back to them as solved without checking to see if it's solved.

It's fatigue that fails them. Every-time you come into boost it blows up like a balloon, and stresses the weld. The corners are the most stressed point in the manifold, so it's a bad place to have a weld. I'd assume they are welded there to facilitate manufacturing, as no one would do that unless it was absolutely necessary. Additionally the flat surfaces of the intake ring like a drum from the intake pulses driving it - that adds to the fatigue of the welds too.

Sheet metal intake manifolds crack all the time on turbo cars, Its very hard to get them right. Its not just dsms, I have seen the same thing happen to honda sheet metal intake manifolds too. Cast intake manifold is the way to go.

My Magnus SMIM has has some cracking issues. I started with this:

I just recently found another crack in the weld on the #4 runner where it meets the mounting flange.

OP, Speaking as someone who has been/is currently in your shoes, I'll leave you with this: If you're gong to run the Magnus SMIM, either get used to having it repaired, or get rid of it. When in one piece, it's still one of the better performing manifolds on the market.

If you don't plan on a crazy build, and you want a good midrange power band you should get a evo 3 intake manifold. Better than stock, solid cast aluminum factory mitsubishi quality, never worry about cracks again, and you should be able to pick one up for no more than $300.
