Maaco Paint Job [Merged 2-7]

The only thing I've kind of been concerned about Maaco is any car that I usually see done at Maaco, all the emblems and factory decals just get painted over.... do they paint over everything like that on the 400-500 paint jobs

Have any of you gotten a paintjob from Maaco? How is the quality? I want to paint my red GS-T silver. I heard they do it for only 250 or something..

For that price it is crap...period. Anyone that charges you that low , your bound to wind up with crap.I believe it's only one coat of paint, and it is cheap paint .

A good paint job will run at least $750

i got mine done there....not bad, they need to repaint the hood but they d it under warranty....not to bad either....i dunno....i didnt feel like getting a real paintjob cause i wanted a teemp fix for my key mark on my door.....but yeha if you are gonna repaint it later go with it...not for yuor final paint job

i worked for maaco a while ago. If you are going to get any paint from them make sure that you at least get the two step. Costs more but at least they spend just a little bit more time on it. And i would never get a color change from them. They don't sand any of the jambs very well so in a couple of months or days the paint will just flake right off.

If you search some of the other threads, you'll see that some people have gotten some great paint jobs from Maaco while others get crap. It all depends on which maaco you go to, and how much you pay. The real cheap one is crap. You'll have to spend at least 3 times that there to get a good lasting paint job. Still not a bad price compared to shops like mine that paint jobs start at 2K minimum.

If you figure good quality paint alone can cost you 300 or so for a whole car......... you do the math. They are saving in prep too, so the paint may come out looking well, but maybe they didnt tape off that well. I personally wouldnt go with them for a permanent paint job if you are concerned enough to be asking everyone this question. Then again, I'm sure a ton of people are happy with their Maaco paint jobs.

Its all in the prep work. If you do most of the prep work yourself, you can get a nice paintjob, even from Maaco.

If you are going to ruin your car by putting a macco paint job on it then at least sand the body as well as you can with some 400 grit paper before you bring it there, i have seen many macco paint jobs from different states and they were all crap but that might also be because I am a painter at a customizing shop and we do nothing but show quality finishes for around $12,000.

Ive also looked into Maaco ., and they have a $600-700 paint job that comes with a 3 year warranty . So it can be that bad. But like said before , you probably want to do most of the prep work yourself, and/or the taping. Or make sure you tell them to do a really good job taping , becuase macco does do some good paint jobs, sometimes they even do the windows for free.

Yipes, I'll drive away at least two cars for that.

I restored the roadster back in '76. DuPont Dulux Jet Black.

I'd never restore a car again. It was worth it, but my god. And then you just get to worry about it.

I wouldnt do it. I work In an autobody shop and I can promise you if you are at all serious about your car looking decent and want to add a body kit or ever put it in a show you will lose massive points for haveing that kind of a paint job. YOu have to understand a real paint job is many steps of sanding prime more sanding, guide coating , sanding again. THen multiple steps of paint then clear. TO get a good paint job
you must adhere to these steps.

Macco Does these steps.

Mix paint and clear , scuff sand clear coat, apply, dry.

You cant get the quality your looking for. If you get your car painted at macco it will look like a giant glossy orange peal rolling down the road. SAVE MONEY GET IT DONE RITE!

Its kind of a catch 22 for you 2g people. The car may only be 4-8 yrs old. I cant imagine the paint crapping out already. If i had a nice 2g, id probably save for a decent 2k-3k job.

Alas, i have a 1g. The car is only worth 1800 bucks to anyone. I'd be STUPID to nicely paint it. The freaking car doesnt even work half the time. It's all about what it means to the owner, you know? The way i look at is...a 1g is an old car. yes, it probably has rust. bad paint. the car is probably a bit ran down. so you fix it up internally. Paint/Rust problems can be solved by a decent amount of prep work. As for the paint, i'd just want a decent enough job to get by.

yeah i was thinking about getting my rear bumper repainted b/c of all the sratches. I might just take it off and sand it all down myself and do the complete prep job including primer. Then bring it over to maaco, i head they are good if you bring a piece in already preped.

Since you're sort of local to me, check out the Maaco in Lisle.

They do AWESOME work, and i think theyve been in business the longest of any maaco in the burbs

i believe jdmawd got his car painted at maaco and look at that. i guess it just depends on which shops you go to. i know that when i want my body work done i will be spending around 5 grand for body work from a local performance body shop. perfectly restored to the way it left the show room.

I agree with the guys, no color change from Macco. Do the sanding and body work yourself, take your time, and pay a little more for the clear coat and it should look pretty good. The reason most cheap Macco paint jobs don't last is because people get the 1 stage without a clear.

I don't know about anyone else's opinions, but I just had my car completely repainting after having been victim of a hit and run... I thought they did an awesome job, even when I brought it back to the dealership to get it inspected...they didn't wanna to even wash my car as they normally would, because they thought it would look dirtier and duller after washing. I honestly was very surprised by the quality...BUT I WILL WARN YOU, when I first got it back there was one area I wasn't satisfied with, because there was a little overspray, so I asked them to fix it, and they repainted that part of the car till it was as good as I wanted it at no additional charge. They Have to please the customers. Hope that helps

Actually, I think it depends on how picky you are. No matter how much you spend on a paint job... upon close inspection you can always find something wrong.

So if you're the picky type and care a lot about your car Maaco is probably not going to cut it.

All I can say is get to know someone who does body work and get to know them well. That's the only way you can get a car repainted without spending a ton of $. Offer to do some of the work yourself will help too. It's still going to cost you... everybody's gotta make a living afterall.

I'm getting my car painted from white to charcoal silver at Maaco..hopefully it will be as successful as some of the users here have had.

Supreme, Prep-Plus, + Full Clearcoat..hopefully everything will go ok.
