I was driving along this evening and all the sudden I start to feel and hear a HORRIBLE grinding and clunking noise coming from what sounds like under the car. Very noticable, plenty loud. The sound happens whether I'm in gear or in neutral (I have a MT). I turned the car off and just let it roll in neutral and it still was grinding/clunking. I drove it home since I was about 2 miles away and had to go about 20mph b/c the faster I went, the louder it was. I do have a ripped CV boot on the inner FRDS, so I jacked up the front and spun the wheel as fast as possible and didn't hear the noise. It was getting late and cold and I have no idea what's wrong.

What's the most likely cause? Transfer case, center diff, something else in the tranny, rear end??

Please help me out here.

Its all the time. But I noticed when I was being towed home (in nuetral with a tow strap) that when I brake really hard it would kind of go away. Besides that it was doing it the whole time and it would get worse the faster we went.

I sent PM to Shane2GSX and he said that it was the center diff that went out. Since I have the same problems he had I'm pretty sure my center diff is also my problem. But is there any way to make sure its not the rear diff? I dont wanna spend big money for a built transmission yet if its not the problem.
