Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I got the Dejon J-pipe in yesterday... wow, what a nice piece. it was sooo easy to get on there! Only complaint I have is the flange is a little thin (compared to the xspower ones)

hey, are you guys actually using the 90 degree bend that came with the kit? It is too long to work with the j-pipe.

Also, I gotta a big question for you Auto guys!!!! What are you guys doing with your tranny dipsticks??????

I'll get pics of everything once its on

Here is my custom made j-pipe so you can get an idea....of a 5 speed with this kit.....I used the 90* piece and the J pipe turbochargers.com supplied with the Evo III GT kit I got.

Got the Thing on there. The 90 degree was too long to work with my j-pipe so I took the Grinder to it. Also, we succesfully bent the dip stick out of the way with the help of a blow torch, some gloves, and a vice

Install is basically finished, gotta do a little more cutting on the nose and get the radiator and fans back in, and top off some fluids. I got some batteries for the camera today, so I'll snap some pics of everything tonight. That TB elbow bolt was a pain in the rear!! Also, the charcoal canister was in the way. I just cut a little (alot) off the bracket, and kinda bent it out of the way. Anyone, I haven't drove my car since last thursday, (stupid radiator) so it'll be nice to crank her up

Finished, here are pics of the install if anyone cares:

The core is great, stays nice and cool after multiple runs. I have some other issues to work out before I can really turn the boost up. I know I have a lot of boost leaks, and I can't get the boost to set at anything past 10 psi.

Looks great! :thumb:

Is that your tranny cooler? I have my oil cooler in the same place, but on the drivers side. Get those boost leaks fixed, and turn up that boost!:talon:

I know right! Yeah its my new tranny cooler from IPT

Here is my general impression:
Pros:
Cheap
Huge B/P Core
Bling
SS Pipes with nice welds
Short Route
Cheap

Cons:
Pipe fitment (some modifying on the 90*)
Tranny cooler has to be moved
ATF Dipstick has to be modified
Charcoal Cannister is in the way
Missing Couple and clamps

Overall I am pleased, I know I'm only boosting 10psi with boost leaks, but after multiple runs the core was cold to the touch on the intake side

I believe the charcoal cannister in the way only applies to what 97-99? On my 95 it is under the battery.

Anyone know where to buy that HKS bov flange to 1g flange? My flange has been modified to fit greddy bov. I know it is not reversible to run a 1g bov, because of the additional holes, BUT if I am using the adapter flange for an HKS bov would it work? The new holes are closer to the opening, ala greddy.

PERFECT TSIMonster! thanks for clarifying. BTW you got that flange at a steal. They cost $50-60+ shipping! Come on EBAY make a knockoff! haha. I'll buy one and produce knockoffs for everybody to enjoy at cheap prices! haha. Oh well, its not a priority

Thanks for the compliments. It was alot of work. I would have had it done a little sooner, but I had to wait on that radiator. Hopefully I am able to get all the boost leaks. Next is tranny maintenance (filter and fluid)

Hey guys, its been a LONG time since I posted in this thread, I've been meaning to post some pics of my FMIC install. The car is currently undergoing a 6bolt swap, as some of you may have read about how my 7 bolt self destructed...
This photo was taken the day before the 7bolt pooed out ot me :( Sorry about how dirty it is. I have better pictures when the car is clean and there are no bugs in the fmic, but they are on a different computer.
I mainly wanted to post these pictures because I havn't really seen any 2ga talons with this kit, so heres mine! Enjoy!

Oooh very nice there, now I know what myne will look like after I finally get it on. Have you considered painting the drivers side pipe I dident realize how much it would stand out or be not covered.

Thanks! I though it turned out very nice as well! And yes, actually I have considered painting the driverside pipe... However Im still undecided. I was thinkging about making some fiberglass inserts to fin around both sides of the IC while leaving maybe an inch or two of the endtank showing, not sure yet. I would love to hear some opinions! However FMIC work will have to wait, as I NEED to get the damned thing running again grrr... oh well, it should be soon, the balance shaft elim kit is in the mail. after that, timing belt/water pump, then the motor goes it!

oh, and by the way, jstiltner, be prepared to do a lot of cutting on the inside of the bumper cover!
