I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I know exactly how you feel I have had to deal with that pipe already twice your talking about the allen srew that is on the inner part of the bend right? And if you dont tighten it up good enough it will leak and that area will cuase the car to act all ****ed up. So your not alone with that pipe. :notgood:

Yeah I even called SBR about this pipe and asked them the best way to do it and Craig told me that he can do it in about a min. with no problems with a Allen wrench and I was like Bullshit he told me to get a craftsman Allen Wrench and I was like yeah thats what I am using and it's about a inch too long , in my own opinon I think it was a piss poor design that needs to be corrected by them , It needs to be bent a diffrent way and not bent over a bolt thats less then half a inch from the pipe it's self but what do I know ...........I am just like the other 20 some people that have complained about it !
It's nothing against SBR it's just SBR ####ing J pipe for Short Route piping it get a big :notgood: from me

I used the dejontool fmic j pipe also and no problems with install. Also I have stock radiator and fans with no overheating at all.

I also used this j pipe and had to cut about an inch and half from the LICP. other than that its a sweet kit. took about 7 hours to get mounting and hooked up

did anyone else notice that their turbo spooled a little slower after the install or am I just retarded?

You coming from a stock smic? I'm sure that will explain the slower spool. I on the otherhand, I came from the big Greddy 24r with the maze of pipes. I did not really notice a difference in spool. I guess the way bigger core, shorter route.. compared to smaller, but maze of pipes canceled each other out? Just a guesstimate.

Perhaps someone can give a more technical explanation.

I know there was a little bit of a pressure drop, but not much. Whats slow about the spool is from 5psi and up. Getting into boost seems actually quicker.

What happened to the guys with the first gens that put these on? no write ups?

i mounted the whole kit on mine and painted it black, im pretty sure i already posted pictures of it somewhere back in these pages. as for a write up, this kit basically fits the same way as it fits on a 2g. the hard part is getting the drivers side pipe to fit. but i already took pictures of that and posted them with the others. i will post a picture of the frontmount mounted with the bumper. the only thing is my bumper sags a bit without the support, plus i hit it when i did a power slide at 65mph on the freeway exit....dont ask:coy:
later

correct me if i'm wrong, but shouldn't the spool time be faster for 2g's coming from stock smic and piping? personally, i figured getting rid of the TERRIBLE stock uicp would make more of an increase than the decrease created by the large core. i don't have my fmic piped yet, but a few months ago when i installed a greddy uicp on my stock smic i spooled 400-500 rpm's earlier.

so, my question is this: will a large core account for that kind of pressure drop?

(i would check for leaks if i were you)

I haven't got mine hooked up yet, but I definately don't think any gain or loss in spool is going to be noticable. I'm an auto, so I spool a little later anyway, but my predication is that with no boost leaks, spool up time should be less

I'm guessing he's confusing spool up time with lag time.

with stock or stockish turbos (25, 14b, 16g) this FMIC is quite the overkill. While spool up time with decrease, the lag time will increase. Thus your full boost will be delayed and your powerband narrowed..... the felt impact will vary from a car to car tho.

ok... ive just got done reading the whole dang thread... holy HEADACHE WTF ... anyways.. i dont think im to interested on modding the 2g kit for my 1g, so im looking to get the 1g long route kit... ive seen the one tech article right up and have talked to the dsmer via pm with good feedback, but i wanna know if theres any other 1g guys out there that have bought this kit ??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DSM-...tegoryZ33742QQihZ015QQitemZ250005435284QQrdZ1
it looks preety straight forward on the install which helps me out alot, because my car is a daily driver and i dont need alot of down time. any feedback on the long route kit????:thumb:

at first i was a bit hesitant about cutting the radiator support as well, but i am going to do it, but it will be quite a bit cleaner than the white car's install (no offense, thanks for taking the time and being the guinee pig). i will cut the radiator support but i will also close off the ends with some steel for a bit more strength. honesty, the 1g isnt the most efficient setup. you would always just get a used buscher or sbr fmic for $500.

It may not be as efficient as a short route, but it is alot cheaper then any other kit, and its 10000000 times better then the 1g stock sidemount. Wouldn't you agree? I say go with the 1g kit, I'm sure you'll be pleased. I'm telling you though, the quality of this XS FMIC kit is absolutely amazing.

Install on a 2g is cake.

but its like the LONGEST route piping you can get....haha. but if you really are that hesistant on cutting then i guess get it. or you could wait until i do my install and look at it.
