Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

So will this FMIC kit work with a 14b/16g? Or is it just meant for downfiring turbos?

hey guys can anyone quickly tell me what's the diameter of the 90 elbow that goes on the turbo outlet?

i need to order silicone elbow since the steel elbow that came with the kit is too big for my v-trim.

thanks

The 90* pipe that comes with the SS kit that connects turbo outlet to the LICP is 2" in diameter.

Im running it with a 16g. I bought a FMIC jpipe to make it smoother as ic piping goes.

What do you mean? Like the one that Dejon Tool sells? That kind?

Where'd you get yours?

I used to use a 2" to 2.5" 90 degree elbow for my vtrim, but I just ended up using a 2" to 2.5" straight coupler and cutting off the reducer on the lower intercooler pipe and it fit perfectly.

I was wondering if someone could help me out with the install. What exactly are you supposed to do with the power steering lines? On most the installs ive read people have just pushed or ziptied them back but theres no way that would work for me. The side tabs on the intercooler are supposed to be flush with the frame or at least a couple washers spaced off it and my drivers side isnt even close. Can someone enlighten me what I should do?

i made a bracket to hold them back with a worm clamp. it works great. just cut off the part of the clamp that is not slotted (this is the part you will use), make 4-90 degree bends in it with some plyers and screw it into the frame. you'll need to use a clamp that will fit around a 2.5 diameter pipe so the piece is long enough. it doesn't get any easier than this. it probably took me 5 minutes total.

(you'll need to pre-drill the clamp and frame for ease and make sure you don't use too long of a screw since there is a wire harness tucked behind the frame. I used a screw that was about 3/8" and it was fine)

ok.
1st take a look at your powersteering bottle.. see the two rubber hoses going down to the front? get a rubber hose of simulart diameter and short route that part.look at the pic i put up,use the lines labeled 1 and 2(2 is the lower line out of the bottle)

2nd. the braket that the hood latch is attached to has to be slightly modified.. (the part that the powersteering line loops at) just get the weld off of it(use dremel, anglegrinder)

after youve done that, you can tweak it a little .

3rd the top tap on the fmic seems to different(some longer, some shorter) just ignore it for now ,your fmic should mont flush to the frame now.

I'll admit that for the price, it's a good kit but me personally, I'm going with the new Dejon Tool 2G FMIC kit. It's only 400 dollars and you don't have to do all this crazy cutting, relocating of the coolant reserve bottle and drilling of holes. Plus it takes advantage of whatever Upper intercooler piping you currently have, it's short route and you keep your stock foglights AND it supports up to 500 HP. What else could you ask for? I'd rather pay 100 dollars more and not have to chop up my whole front end and know that I'm getting quality stuff from a trusted vendor. No missing couplers and clamps with this kit. But hey, to each his own.

ummm no offese & all but:

1. you still have to do cutting......ala bumper support
2. you still have to drill holes to attach it
3. it's NOT short route
4. If you don't have hard UICP already you are stuck w/ shitty stock since it doesn't come with hard pipe
5. 95-96 fog lights still have to go
6. there is only one cut to be made to the core support w/ the XS kit.....which is the same cut you have to make with AGP fmic kit which XS copied....
7. "trusted vendor" huh? it's a ebay intercooler....

You may be suprised at what you might have to modify even for the dejon kit. This FMIC is much bigger then the FMIC from dejon that you are refering to, and the dejon piping for that particular IC is not true short route.

Not bashing the dejon kit at all, but it is wrong to say it is better

"Minor trimming of bumper is required. Stock fog lights go on 95-96 Keep on 97-99. Requires relocation or removal of PS cooling line (and Automatic Trans cooler). Must replace AC fan (drivers side) with low profile unit" -dejon website

Thats just as much, if not more modyfying then you have to do with the xs kit, for a smaller core

it's already been said that if you don't already have an uicp you're stuck with stock, but i felt like mentioning the extra $100-250 if you don't have one and don't want stock.

soooo...we have a grand total of $500-650 for a smaller core, LONG route piping and just as much if not more modding.

WOW....THAT'S A GREAT DEAL! :notgood:

You act like having a hard UICP is a MUST. Everyone at this point usually has hard pipes already anyway. And what extra drilling? The Dejon Tool FMIC is supported by hangers that go UNDERNEATH the bolts on the upper part of the bumper.

Personally I've seen first hand the hassle that is required for a XS Power FMIC install and frankly I'm not willing to go through all that trouble to save 200 RPMS in spool up time.

Not to mention that if you want to recirculate your BOV, you need to buy a foot of radiator hose. Give me a break.:notgood:

And how many of us really need this huge of a core anyway? 80% of us will never even get a sniff of 400 HP let alone 500. The XS FMIC is such overkill. Oh wait I forgot, lately it's cool to have the biggest core on Earth that cools no better than one a few inches smaller. I'm just saying that for those 2G owners who don't wanna destroy their 97-99 bumper, don't want to go running around hardware stores for more couplers, clamps and having to resurface their TB flange, the Dejon Tool is a great alternative for a little more money.

If by "great alternative for the money" you mean having to as much or more modification, and have an IC that won't support as much power, by all means, knock yourself out. Once I get this FMIC, I'll have all supporting mods ready for pretty much any turbo I want, up to like 450whp or so. So why shouldn't we get a big core? Not everyone is satisfied with an essentially stock car like you.

You do not need any extra radiator hose. Mine along with many others in my location did not have any trouble at all recircing their BOV's!

I believe the clamp situation has been taken care of. Like people have said to each there own but why pay more espeically for the same work you have to do with the Dejon core vs the XS core. It's a no brainer on which one to get but like I said to each there own. I would be pissed to be paying 500+ for a FMIC that doesn't even come with all the piping.

Are you refering to Mike's (No_skillz) install? I don't know what happened since I haven't spoken to either of them (bruce or mike) about it, but my FMIC install from start to finish was less than 3 hours. Of course it also helps that I prepared for the lack of supplies that XS seems to enjoy doing.

Wow, this thread never dies.... Only problem I've had with this kit is the UICP flange not sealing correctly against the TB causing a boost leak over 10psi. I'm really looking forward to going to the track this Friday and hitting a 12's on my 14b with this new fmic.
