Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Alright. For future reference, I've been able to get the groupbuy deal on may 22nd, but Deedee from SSAC wouldn't make it shipped to canada. So i got it for $325USD shipped, which is still good in my book!

Let's see how long customs will hold that package...

That's strange. I got mine for $295 shipped and there was no customs charges when it got here (Fed Ex).

Sounds good to my ears! that makes it ±370$ CAD to my door... Pretty good considering the original AGP would be 1125$ with all the options! :rocks:

extra 755$ : straight on the FP3052 ;)

I personally know the company that makes ssauto's intercoolers and exhausts, I can guarantee they are not based in the US.

Man, are we still beating this to death??? 44 pages is crazy.

i got mine ages ago, finally getting around to installing it LOL

hey,is the piping aluminum or thin stainless steel..they seem kinda heavy...

I THINK that it is stainless, except for the part w/ the flange. That pipe or that flange is not stainless steel. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Where are those promised 1g writeups? I've been checking this thread every day for the past few months wanting to see a decent writeup, and no avail.

There are some good photos of a 1g install on page 41, though not much of a write up.

A couple of questions for 91-GSX.

It looks like you cut off the intercooler endtank inlet pipe at the first bead right after the bend. Was this necessary to avoid hitting the frame on the drivers side? It seems the coupler comes off at a small angle and then connects to the 90degree lower pipe to go through the hole you cut on the drivers side and then towards the turbo with a small angle relative to the radiator. Did the stock intercooler pipe fit the provided lower pipe without much effort?

The passenger side looks to match up with the opening beside the radiator pretty well. There seems to be a small bend at the coupler where it connects to the throttle body elbow, was this a problem?

The difficulty in making this intercooler work on a 1g seems to be the driver side piping. Some cutting seems to be required, but no welding or buying extra parts (other than a j-pipe and the missing coupler).

I plan to go this route for an intercooler setup on my first gen.

There was a guy who said he got it to fit without having to cut anything. I'm curious as to how he did it and if he could provide pictures. Chicago_Boostin' is his name (or something similar like that).

AHhhhhh, I am just about finished installing this kit on my 99 gst. All i have to do is go get my custom j pipe welded (im running this on a t25 because for the price, i had to pick one up so im ready to upgrade to an evo316g in the future) and install that and im all done. I've been down for about 3 days (not working the ENTIRE days) and am ready to get her back on the road.

Prior to installation I had noticed that a few people had tried installing this on a t-25/28 turbo and they just cut the turbo. I did not do this. Instead I made a custom pipe. If anyone is going to attempt the same thing, I can probably answer your questions.

I'm just putting this out there because prior to my installation, searching through all forty some odd pages to find any posts with answers to my questions or regarding the ssautochrome fmic + t25/28 installation took 2+ hours. WTF

Good stuff cool_g_83, now you can contribute, and add pics so the next person wont have to ask.

So yes please post pics of how you did your custom stuff. I would like to see it, because in the future I might purchase another one for my uncle's GS-T and it has a stock t25 and don't know how I would do the piping.

The bids on ebay are going for less than the special price.

DSM market is very small and due to the quantity they need to order in order to maintain a low price, I guarantee these will be selling for less than 250 normally.
