Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

HAHA, I knew that screen name sounded familiar! how are ya man!?

Oh and just to keep this thread relevant, the FMIC has been on the car for about 1k and no signs of boost leaks anywhere. No overheating (70* outside logged 195* coolant temps) with the hotter weather either :thumb:

How about now??

so the pipe w/ reducer, is it supposed to connect this way or does it need to be connected to the intercooler first?

I've had this fmic for about 2,000 miles and it's great!! No problems at all. I would get this kit any day over any other! The price is great, I bought this kit a long while back when this thread just started. I had to custom fabricate everything and figure everything out myself!! I was a new member so I couldn't post on here. The thing that is great about this kit is that even if you get in an accident or somehow bust it it's cheap as hell. By time you hit two deer and get ran into by father time, you will still be paying more for one of some name brand fmic compared to 4 of the SS fmic:cool:

Watch the rest of that auction and then take the closing price and add shipping to it. Then you will understand why 295 Shipped is a smokin' deal.

ya the 295 w/ shipping will most likely still be the better deal i think. that auction still has about a day left in it too. take that price and then add 60-70 dollars to that. Wonder why the prices are low on that kit???????HHHHMMMMM.......

DO NOT hack off the elbow.

Get a custom made pipe, or Upgrade your turbo. There are some really good turbo deals out there too.

You'll thank me later....
I got a new turbo, but that is waiting until my motor gets done. I just wanted to get the fmic setup so that it's one less thing to do when the motor comes.

Ok
so is it to late to get in on the $295 shipped group buy ?

Yup there is still all the time in the world to order this kit. I hope to be ordering mine anytime now. It would make a nice addition but at the same time, I have a hole in my sidemount core and I'm at the point where it makes sense to upgrade.

I bought a ebay intercooler... the core measured 24"long 12"high and 4" thick. its a bar and plate design and works awesome.. I have a BR-57 turbo with pte 880s running 24psi with no knock. running a keydiver chip with some nice timing maps for 94 fuel. i think the ebay coolers are good. since theres no moving parts and they do cool good.

Holy 44pgs OMG

Posted an inquiry to DeeDee on the price/availability of just the 2G core as I've got most of the piping already from my last FMIC install.

Anyway they cannot separate and dont' see the 3.5" core listed on their site in other configurations. Was told the 1G kit can be had for $295 shipped (same deal as in post#274 ) but from the looks of IT, it has super long route piping and is only 3" (2.75 actual) in width :( :dsm:

I have that 90 degree elbow that came with the XS auto kit. I didn't use it just cause. So I have that for sale if someone needs an extra, its not hacked or anything.

That makes two of us LOL
I didn't use mine because first, it wouldn't fit. Second, too much piping already so instead of hacking or keeping the 90 degree elbow pipe to just buy a 90 degree elbow coupler. :thumb:

That's funny, I didn't even think to do that when I was installing my FMIC. You do realize you have to find a 90* coupler that also reduces from 2.2.5 to 2" right? TRUST ME, a 2.25" coupler is going to leak, even if you use a t-bolt.

Some of these installs seem relatively easy compared to what I had to deal with. I had to cut out the frame for the cold pipe, cut the radiator support, and use sheetmetal to strengthen the radiator support so I could use it, cut the radiator trim a little bit, cut the hot pipe in half then cut like 3.75 inches out of it, cut the cold pipe like 3 inches for my GM MAF, remove my charcoal canister and reroute the lines, I cant use my goddamn stock fan, and find more couplers and t-bolt clamps as they were missing some, cut off the top intercooler tab, cut off the radiator overflow metal piece, and cut the intercooler extension on the hot side down 2-inches, cutting the front bumper up.

From the read, I thought all I would have to do was cut the frame for the cold pipe, my gm maf, and a little bit for the extra pipe on the hot side. Oh well I love "bolt-on" kits hahah. I dont want to know requires modification. This fmic took me like 2 days of actual work, replacing my manifold took all of 4 minutes literally. Stupid cutting all the goddamn time.

I should have taken pictures to do another install. Oh well, when I do my buddies in like 2-3 weeks I will post up his.
