Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Nope, just cut the section out and use a coupler. Notice the second one I used.

they do have 1g kit on e-bay ,if you lucky the reservd price is about the same.just have to pay extra for shipping.

When I bought mine off eBay from XSPower they said they'd ship it for free. But I opted to pay them $20 and got it 2nd day air.

here are the pics the of the 2g kit on my 1g. i painted the pipes black for the stock look, cops here will give you a ticket for anything.... i changed the 2 throttle body bolts so that i could turn the bolt and so that i could eliminate the brace that goes from the cas to the throttle body. anyway here are the pics, and thanks for the support guys, as you can see i have my 14b on and clocked and ported to hell. i have dsmlink and that is the next thing in, then i will tell you how this thing preforms.

Just a word of advice, that fernco coupler is going to explode once you start building boost. I should know, I went through 3 of them before I bought a real silicon coupler. Looks fantastic otherwise!

p.s., Also, you should think about switching your couplers around so that the tbolts are on the LICP. This way if a clamp does blow off, it most likely won't be one on the LICP and if it's on the UICP, it's easily accessible if you're on the road. Trust me, you don't want to get stuck on the highway on your back trying to change a damn clamp. Another good method I've used is using 2 wormscrew clamps. They seem to hold pressure well too.

looking good man. Can't wait to see it at the next meet. I painted my pipes black also.

thanks, by the way, when is the next meet?

Also is that a pacesetter manifold? how you liking it?

yes this is the pacesetter, i put it on after repainting it black. the black paint that it came with is known not to hold. i cant really tell you if it is making a difference power wise because i had put it on when my car was still stock, and i have had it on ever sense. maybe 8 months now sense it was stock. so this manifold holds well for cars that have a 14b turbo or 16g because it needs the support of the water lines and oil lines. other then that it would not be worth the chance of it cracking, i am actually looking for a 2g manifold now so that i can put a bigger and heavier turbo on.

next meet ......... wow i have no idea what i was talking about ummmm yeah that was a total brain fart

hey guys.. i bought the xspower 1g fmic kit. Shipping was good, packing was good and what not. After i got it it took me a while to get down to put it on, since i was doin a head up rebuild.
So, the core was nice.. looked like the welds were done nicely, the core was kind of on the large side.
Installing it.. i had to make the hole where the stock intercooler came up bigger.. obvious.
im still debating if it should leave the big metallic part of the bumper off.. or have it cut somehow. for now.. the bumper is sagging a bit.
now, it seemed like this kit was made for a 14g, since it didnt have way to connect it to my 60 trim. neither to the outlet of turbo nor to the throttle body.
Now i have to find a way to get an elbow to go into the turbo and.. somehow get the elbow to the tb.. i will post pics soon.

looking ####ing nice bro!

are you gonna paint the front mount too?

and for the bottom last piece of the licp...you should get a long ass piece of silicone coupling, and use that instead of the pos stock hose.

anyways man it looks nice, and u said you dont give up easily.:D props man.:thumb:
