Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

91-gsx, how goes the install? I've been wondering these past couple days with the forums being down.

Thanks!

See, that's what I was thinking, but I figured I'd post the numbers anyway. However, I can't understand how a larger FMIC would allow more air flow versus a smaller core. Care to iterate?

With a smaller core the endtanks actually get in the way and block some of the flow...not with a bigger core. Also air passes through a FMIC really easily, go put your hand behind yours and blow :thumb:

I suppose that would be true for side to side FMIC's. I guess I couldn't see the logic since I last ran a top/bottom FMIC and the endtanks were nowhere to be seen :D

WOW.....make sure you all do a boost leak test. I had a massive leak at TB and BOV flange, which were forced to be resurfaced, also the welds on my TB flange are leaking through.

Off topic: my BISS screw is leaking bad, do I just need a new o-ring, and how hard is it to fix?

today i will mount the FMIC on my 1G, the motor isnt in the car yet.. so i cant route the pipeing, im gogin to see if i can find a way to make it so i dont have to cut the frame.. wish me luck..

If the welds on the tb flange are leaking isnt it possible to prep and apply a thin layer of jb weld to seal the holes? I did it when I installed my bov flange to seal 3 small holes and it worked great, but I also have not done a boost leak test in a while.

This is what i plan on doing. The leak was very minor though

If you read my tech article. Last page under Additional things: I state about resurfacing the TB. Everyone should do it to avoid any leaks.

I had the exact same problem.I just had a buddy reweld mine.

I didn't know this thread was still even open, But anyways... I think I have a HUGE leak by the tb now also. The flange ''looked'' flat, But I guess I can't really tell by just looking huh? How did you all get it ''flat'' again? I can hear air gushing out around by the tb at idle... Thec ar takes awhile to spool also..

Thusfar, no one has even recognized what I said 500 posts ago. You will need to take the elbow to a machine shop with a nice belt sander and have it smoothed out. the idiots at NAPA by my area couldn't tackle this "small" job. Then you can go ahead and check with a feeler gauge against a nice smooth flat surface to make sure your TB is flat.

Yeah, you can notice that is not very flat. Tom found out a while back and upon receiving my kit I notice it wasn't flat. Which I mention on the writeup.
Take it to a machine shop, shouldn't cost more than 10bux. Don't know any? go to a known and good perfomance shop and ask where they get their flywheels resurface for customers and just take it there.

i wonder how our 1g guy is doing.

whats up guys, i just realized like yesterday that we could still read and post on the forums...LOL anyway, i have the throttle body elbow mounted, but am having a problem with that last bolt at the bottom right, there is almost no room to turn that thing, let alone really tighten it. ill figure it out, but any ideas would help greatly. i also painted the piping black, and got the 14b i rebuilt in, so once my dsmlink comes in i will get to test this baby out:sneaky: .

I just used a 12mm wrench.

Did any of you that installed the XSPower FMIC find the straight pipe on the turbo>fmic on the driver side to be too long? It's like an inch or two too long.
