Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I finally got to make it out to the strip last Friday, and was able to clock off a 12.985 @ 105.63 run. Very happy considering that hitting 12s was my goal for the season and I was able to do it the first night out. Previous best last yr, before the FMIC, was a 13.3 @ 102.7. Only other addition to the car is a 95 EPROM ECU with DSMchips stage 3 chip.

In my experience, it's done it's job. You guys have to remember that any intercooler can only cool to ambient temps. Obviously, there's going to be a difference between an 80* day and a 50* night. Plus, what intercooler is going to be 100% efficient and cool all the way down to ambient temp?

A difference b/w a more expensive core and a cheaper core, from my observation, are the number of fins and how densely they're "packed" together. Looking at a nice Buschur core, you're going to notice many more fins that are very close together. This increases surface area for cooling and raises IC efficiency. The fins on this core are spaced farther apart.

Another difference could be the aluminum alloy. There may be a difference in the heat capacity of different alloys, but I'm not a metallurgist and can't say how much that would affect cooling.

That's my two pennies.

i got my kit and everything looks AWESOME. For my other car I purchased a $900 fmic and it was sh*t compared to this.
My only question though is, that why does it seem like "L" pipe for the turbo side seem to be really small? Can someone take a pic of their piping, just to make sure that mine is exactly the same?

well I guess I my self will be runing 1 of these Xs FMIC kit's becuase my Girlfriend bought me 1

So far on this stock motor I have these parts
Evo 16g
650 cc injectors
AFC 1
Walboro 255 HP
Keydriver stage 3 chip
magnecore wires
NGK Bpr7es gaped at .028
3inch Megan Down pipe
3inch Thermal R & D cat back
ACT 2900
ACT flywheel
1g BOV
and a FMIC that 20x8x3
PLX M-300 Wideband
Prothane motor mounts

I am going to put it on the dyno with the smaller FMIC and then switch them and go right back to the dyno with the Xs FMIC and see how much power I can make with it
The boost level will be at 20psi and 93 octane

Judging by your 116 mph trap speed, I'd say you're definitely not a n00b :D btw, I was referring to bignbumpin with his 1 post in 3 years OMG
