Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I just got my fedex tracking number and its not coming till next week wednesday, and my days off are monday and tuesday, so ill have to wait another week to install it

I ordered this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Huge-FMIC-Turbo-Intercooler-41x11x3-3-Bent-Inlet_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQitemZ8044830719 jeebus!! thats a long linkWTF ? It's like a Apexi hybrid- skyline-esque-knock-off, but the quality looks commendable. I'm still waiting for it, and I already have the front-end cut to accomodate for it. I'll post pics when its on:thumb: It's going to wrap around the fron of my car:D :rocks:

looking at the endtank approx. location relative to rad. sopport holes, you may have issues running piping. Those endtanks will stick out past the rad. support openings, and running them around isn't going to work out too well because endtanks ar facing inward a bit too much.

All in all, I'm really interested to see it plumbed, so make sure to post pics when you're done.

Exactly what I was thinking. Why not just get a core with straight endtanks and plumb it like everyone else? There's no need to be different when it comes to things like this. Whatever is easier and works is what I'd go for :thumb:

I was just wanting to get an update from everyone who has installed this group buy intercooler kit. Just wondering if anyone has had any problems? How is throtle response? My brother in-law just got his (got it in 5 days), and we are about to install it.
The kit looks pretty good. It sure is a good price for this kit!!

I'm definately going to post updates, I like the curved end-tanks only because it follows the contour of the 1GB's front end. Other than that the end tanks will stick out passt the radiator like the big ears of red haired kid that you sat behind in grade school. And as for mounting options, I'm going to mount it with the Inlet/Outlet on the bottom =/|###|\= like that

I have had this kit installed for a month now it has been great. Ive had zero problems with it and all the parts included work great. No complaints whatsoever.

It seems SS Autochrome's web site and email are both down. I can't even resolve the domain with DNS. Does that happen often? Kind of makes it difficult to email them.

Edit: looks OK now, they must have just been having problems Saturday.

Edit: Down again Tuesday. Perhaps they should look into getting a new hosting company...

:thumb: Same here. No complaints on my side. Only thing I have noticed is that it has been getting warmer out here and the piping is warm after a couple runs on the TB side. Not nearly as hot as my old front mount though.

So which is the kit everyone has gone with? Can someone post a link? Its kind of hard to find it in a 1000+ posts, LOL

Ive had the same thing happen.I just did another boost leak test and the weld on the tb elbow are leaking all the way around it.So I had to take it to a buddy to reweld it.That is my only complaint about this kit. This kit is great I logged 37lbs min with my e16g today.

OMG the suspense...when you do finish up do a nice write up on what kit the 1g guys should buy....what to modify..and how to install it..

i bet ssautochrome will sponsor you as in refunding your money or something nice...

thanks a million for being our test rat.

you 2nd gen guys must be having better luck. i've had the same issue someone else
posted here about 6 weeks ago. i too won a ebay auction for a 1st gen kit and rec'd a evo fmic instead. the correspondence with them is awful. they rarely answer their emails. so far i've gotten them to pick up the evo fmic and they stated will send out the correct fmic asap. well it's been 6 weeks now and still do not have the correct fmic. be careful!!

The more I look at the long-route kit, the more curious I get as to how hard it would be to simply cut that long pipe that goes in front of the FMIC and route it behind the radiator support. Anyone think that would be too difficult?

what do you guys think about this one? I'm just trying to keep away from knock as much as possible since I'm not running a turbo ECU or SAFC for now, I'm not going over 11 PSI so I'm pretty sure this will be acceptable, do you guys see any thing wrong with it (other then cutting the pipes to fit since they are all the same shape)

here's the link:

never minf, just read the feedback, by the way, when is the 1g group buy coming?????

I promised updates for my FMIC install, so... here you guys go!!!
