Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

->to get the blowthru setup to work, id have to cut the piping the be able to fit the maf in (the piping is 2.5" so id need a 2.5" maf correct? or could i somehow use a 3" maf?)

yeah you would have to get some 3.0 to 2.5 reducers..

well i started working on the fmic. so far i have it mounted, how does it look?

It looks really good, Did you say you hafto fabricate the drivers side? It looks like it fits really good, And for the money... You coulden't go wrong. You could even extend that pipe a bit longer or cut the u bend off and get a straight piece then a 90* coupler

actually it would be a lot cheaper and easier to just fabricate it. plus the route of the tubing would be through both sides of the radiator support, and that means less tubing. i think this intercooler is definately worth the effort, it definately fills up the the front way more then my spearco top to bottom. i also like the way the intercooler has the inlet pipe on the bottom of one side, and the outlet pipe of the intercooler is at the top on the other side. i think this would make for better cooling.

Are you serious? Are you talking about the XS Power FMIC kit?
Sorry, I was gone for a while. I ran a 26X12X3 intercooler and the IN/OUTs were 3" and at the bottom. I turned the 2.5" pipes out and around the bottom of the lights. I have a picture of the car with FMIC installed in the gallery. Just like post #313 and #314 in this thread; same intercooler, same pipe direction.

thanks man, but i dont actually have a polished valve cover. it looks shiny because i brightened up the picture before i posted it because my camera takes pretty dark photos sometimes, even with a flash. and this thing is very big like you said, it should fill the front up very nicely. i will also be painting everything black, cops here are anal about everything so i have to make it look as sleeper as possible, a big smile on my car wont help...LOL.

wow..never thought i could read 1021 posts in one day! LOL i think i want this fmic now. i planned on doing a blowthru setup with a hks and also planned on using a evo III... to accomplish this, i would need to:

->to get the blowthru setup to work, id have to cut the piping the be able to fit the maf in (the piping is 2.5" so id need a 2.5" maf correct? or could i somehow use a 3" maf?)...i'd also need to get an adapter to fit the hks onto this 1g flange...

->for the evo III to fit, id need to get a j pipe made for a fmic, correct?

from what ive read, thats about it....besides random cutting and trimming to get the actual fmic to fit, and any missing clamps...did i forget anything (parts, hoses, pipes)? or are my reading skills up to par?:sneaky:

turbo98eclipse, I guess you want to have a setup like mine. Don't mind the 2g MAS that is still there, I still need to find a filter that will fit the FP Intake.

ok ok I just read like 36 pages on these Xs & SS autochrome FMIC kit's (copy cat AGPkit)

And I have to say that they actually look pretty good and seem to be holding up but How long have you guy's been pushing these Intercoolers with big turbo's like 50 trim and up ?

Has anyone actually gone to a dyno and tested these FMIC ?

How is most of your knock count looking sense some of you log these ?

Are you sure you read all the pages? If you did you wouldve seen GreddyGst's writeup. :p He is pushing 400+FWHP with the XS Kit. I am using a PTE 50, my DSMLink logs are telling me im about 300hp, stock motor, 91 piss pump gas, no tune, at 20 psi. I did notice I'm not getting any knock anymore, compared from using my greddy 24r. Once the weather gets better I'm going to push for an aggressive tune.

May have been somthing I over looked :shhh:

What page was this on ?

300hp ? are you sure you belive what DSM link tells you as far as hp goes?
No trying to bash or be an ass but with your mods you should be well over 300whp

Hell almost 2 years ago I did 330whp @ 20psi on 93 pump gas on a Completely Stock 7 bolt motor in my 97 GST and I was only able to make 1 pull on the dyno with NO TUNNING and then a boost leak poped up and ended the day
This was the mod list I had
AGP RS49 (50 trim) @ 20psi
RNR 3 inch 02 eliminator down pipe w/Atmosphere dump
Thermal 3" cat back
PTE 680cc injectors
Walboro 255 FP
AFC 1 for fuel control
Custom RRE (Griffen FMIC) 20x10x3 with custom pipes
Dejon tool 3 inch intake
Bushur Upper piping
ACT 2600 and Fadanza POS flywheel
95 Eprom ECU socketed with TMO stage 3 chip

Thats why I asked for dyno number's with this FMIC kit because I do not belive DSM link is correct on HP number , it's like trying to belive G-Tech :nono:
