Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

the FMIC is holding well over 400whp at 25psi which means is what I was hoping. Welds hold great and I can't complain

So, Is traction a really big problem for you without an LSD? Just easing into the gas in 3rd gear, Do your tires break loose? I was going to order a shep full race tranny with lsd, And it's a 1,000$ + difference in pricing because of the lsd too.

Traction is a big big issue. I've tried BFGs drag radials and they don't hold the power on 1st and 2nd but I can feel all the power on the ground on 3rd gear. Street tires I can only smash it on 4th gear. Basicly if I want to run the car at its full potential I need to do a super sick burnout on the BFGs (Make em really really hot) which would eventually kill my clutch but I would get feel the power on 1st and 2nd otherwise i'll just spin and RPMs just increase and I'm force to switch gears faster solution low RPMs at each starting gear :notgood:

LSD is a must with this kind of power. Shep race tranny would be really smart too. For me though, I plan to do AWD conversion during the summer which is why I put a hold on LSD.

1993eclipseGS, shep full race tranny + LSD would is the best setup to get to avoid my problem for FWD cars. LSD alone can solve the problem but a built race tranny is :thumb:

April 1-2 i'm going to a local race track event. I might get a hold of some slicks for this event and with slicks I shouldn't worry about traction problems but we will see.

Nice write up GreddyGST, I was about to make a writeup on it since I just finished installing this intercooler on my friends car. I even took abunch of pictures. I did mine and my friends alittle different then yours but in the end, it looks just about the same. I didn't have to trim the fog light openings at all. I also have a good way to install the TB elbow that I'll post up with pics alittle later.

:sigh: I still cannot get my god forsaken lower right tb nut tight and its leaking like a champ. It makes 10 lbs great before 4k and after 4k where my td06h 20g really starts to build boost, it wants to sputter choke and die and will only hold 10lbs

Heh, problem solved! Car runs like a scaulded ass dog now!!! Looks like I only lost a psi on pressure drop but damn, for that kinda money...WHO CARES?!?! Here pretty soon it will be time to bump it up from 14 to 22 and get tuned :D

Nice pictures. Where did you put the coolant reservoir?

Look at this picture, it shows were I put it. It's working so far until I relocate it down in my wheel well.

Nice work on the maft/SSQV setup. How much did you cut out to fit in the maf and did you modify the SSQV or the actual pipe flange?

I will be basically running the same setup if my fmic j-pipe comes in...damn sidemount j-pipe.

I cut about 3inches off the TB elbow to get it to fit. With the SSQV, I purchased a adapter awhile ago that matted the HKS to a stock 1g Flange. I believe that flange might have came from a Skyline kit. Now I just need to find a different filter so that I can get rid of my 2g MAS.

what have you guys used to seal the throttle body elbow? a oem gasket or just some rtv silicone gasket maker? i was thinking of using gasket maker to make my gasket, but just wanted to make sure it would seal well, maybe somebody has experience with this.
thanks for the help,
later

I used the oem gasket and coated it in rtv and it does not leak.

I was wondering why you had a MAS with the MAFT.

i recieved mine in the mail a few days ago, (as did a friend of mine), and both of ours had damaged fins. i haven't seen his personally, but i am pretty sure mine was due to poor packing on the back side. damage is in a lower corner and is more than just the fins. it doesn't seem as though it is bad enough to hinder performance however.

on a positive note, i recieved all couplers and clamps.

Yes, Nick and mine both had damaged fins. However, the damage on mine is located in just two small spots and is not too bad. After I install it, I will try and use some needle nose plyers to straighted the bent fins up. The fins do bend rather easy though.

Mine also came with all clamps and couplers. However, I will have to grind off excess piping inside the UIP where the BOV flange was welded on. But for $300, I'm not gonna complain. :D
