Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

i cut off an inch and ground the rest down.

The Eclipse.......Almost runs :D Should be finishing her up tomarow! .......hopefully :D

Well I started mine today with the help of Narco, we're about half way and worked roughly 2.5 hours. So it's not bad at all for an install. The only part that is kinda diifficult is using my cuurent J-pipe and not buying a FMIC J-pipe, but im pretty sure we'll get it to work.
Ill post pics tomm. night if we finish.

Props to Narco, he is a good guy.

Well I got my kit yesterday. When I opened it up, I found good pipes in one box and a damaged core in the other. Wondered if anyone else had anything wrong and needed to exchange it?

matt

Do you have pics of the damage? The shipping company mustve tossed around your packaged real good to get damaged, when I recieved mine there was so much foam and popcorn, one seirously would have to purposely toss the box around furiously the core inside.

I guess this is the ultimate test of how good their customer service is, how they will handle exhange and how long it will take you to get a new core.

mine had a good amount of bent fins.. nothing that a set of tweezers and 20 minutes couldn't fix.

I will take a pic of the damage as soon as i can. But I uploaded a pic that i circled the area damaged but instead of the right side it is on the left side. Anyway, if it will still hold pressure I was wondering how much of the lowers part of the intercooler would be hidden under the lower lip of a 95 talon. It might be better to just use it instead of trying to send it back. There is no fixing it because the bottom frame is dented up which smashed all the fins so there is no straighting of the fins.

thanks

The pic I posted was one I found on this thread and I just circled the area that was smashed on mine, so the one in the picture is fine, I just used it as an example. The area in red on mine is smashed up into the row.

I know someone already made a post saying that the stock recirculation pipe barely fit, but I'm having a little trouble. I kinda lost the stock piece, so I have a little piece of radiator hosing connecting my Type S to my Dejon intake. The car drives, feels fine, and the bov blows off perfectly. The problem is that the pipe is pretty crimped up, and it is pushing against the wires connecting into the MAS. Does anyone have an idea of another type of pipe that would make a better fit? Some other material of hosing that could be used that would make a fairly good fit?

Here are some finished pics of this kit on my car:

I dont' know why, but when I contacted them 3 times now, they've replied to me in less than 48 hours  Anyway, I always do a rush payment after I win an auction (before I even had the invoice sent to me) and I received everything 3 business days later.

I sent an e-mail to confirm that I could get in on the group buy on the 12th and recieved an e-mail later that night saying that I could and telling the paypal account to send it to. I paid that night and I am still waiting for the kit. Ill post again when I get mine in! :thumb: -Matt

Nice write up GreddyGST, I was about to make a writeup on it since I just finished installing this intercooler on my friends car. I even took abunch of pictures. I did mine and my friends alittle different then yours but in the end, it looks just about the same. I didn't have to trim the fog light openings at all. I also have a good way to install the TB elbow that I'll post up with pics alittle later.

Yea post your pics to help others. It wasn't necessary to trim the fog light area but those Nuts move the FMIC closer to the bumper which is fine with me as long as the power steering lines don't touch the FMIC. It could still fit though but they would be touching and I can show you what happens if the bumper touches the FMIC. It gets black and stuff, I'll take a pic.

Thanks. Do you guys think that if I go to like Home Depot and get some run-of-the-mill plastic tubing, it would work as the recirculation tube? Would it melt from the heat? It isn't causing problems, but I don't like that it's pushing against the wires.

I dont have the fmic yet, but my current setups tube was originally crimped. What I did was cut the tube in the middle and then rotated the two ends and put a short plastic tube in between. Not sure if that woud work for you, mine was crimped because it was twisting, yours looks as if it is too sharp of a bend. Either way the home depot tubing will probably be fine, I believe they even sell rubber tubing as well.
