I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

I purchased mine a week ago and recieved it a couple days ago in perfect shape. There is four couplers included in mine. I contacted them and recieved the group buy price and couldnt be happier. I am also going to do as shane2gsx said and clean up the bov pipe, but that shouldnt be too difficult. $300 shipped minus what I can sell my Greddy IC pipes for, yeah, not a bad deal at all! :thumb: Has any one tried installing this kit with the t-25? -Matt

I personally would upgrade to a T-28 or at least a 14b before a FMIC, but good luck.

After reading 34 pages and 1010 posts I'm selling my Greddy 24R and getting this shit. Only reason is because my friend has been dying to buy my Greddy FMIC for $600 w/ piping. :D

I thought about bolting it on the the T25 as well. But I think I'll wait till I get my bigger turbo now. Don't want to risk it being on the car and damaging it while I don't even need to use it. Now I just have to decide what 50 trim to go with. Hmm.. decisions, decisions..... :D

off topic, but i figured i'd put it anyway.

if i had it to do all over again, i would have bought the gt30r or gt35r. depending on your hp goals, these turbos are AWESOME!
(i will be switching out my turbo for the gt35r once i get the rest of my modding done.)

yes i have it installed.. you are going to need a 90* coupler coming off the turbo. or you can hack away at the housing like narco did. i just got a piece of the stock soft icp that was at a 90* bend and used that.. haven't had any problems with it. you are also going to have to get a slimline fan OR you can ghetto rig yours like i did with mine:

took an hour and a half because i couldn't keep the dremmel disks from snapping.. you are going to have to hack away a good bit. didn't actually touch the shroud though. i don't really mind the fact that its held up by zip ties because it is pinched in place by the turbo outlet pipe, and its cheaper than a slim line and will probably flow better too :thumb:

well i pulled off the bumper and my old intercooler setup just now and the xs power fmic is going to need a little more fabbing to get it to fit. as i suspected, the drivers side of the fmic, or the inlet of the intercooler does not have a place to go for our 1g's. so i have a new plan. i want to hack off the pipe that is welded on to the intercooler on the drivers side. then i will have that hole covered with a flat piece of aluminum and rewelded. then i am going to take the same pipe i hacked off and have it rewelded onto the intercooler to resemble the other side of the intercooler. this way i can make the piping route even shorter, cleaner install and it would fit very nicely. well this is the plan for now, ill keep you guys updated.

wow..never thought i could read 1021 posts in one day! LOL i think i want this fmic now. i planned on doing a blowthru setup with a hks and also planned on using a evo III... to accomplish this, i would need to:

->to get the blowthru setup to work, id have to cut the piping the be able to fit the maf in (the piping is 2.5" so id need a 2.5" maf correct? or could i somehow use a 3" maf?)...i'd also need to get an adapter to fit the hks onto this 1g flange...

->for the evo III to fit, id need to get a j pipe made for a fmic, correct?

from what ive read, thats about it....besides random cutting and trimming to get the actual fmic to fit, and any missing clamps...did i forget anything (parts, hoses, pipes)? or are my reading skills up to par?:sneaky:

I have a evo III and i bought a fmic j pipe from dejonpowerhouse.com and it has been workin great with that turbo and this kit. I had to cut about 3 or 4 inches off the lower ic piping to make it line up with the intercooler but other then the cutting there wasnt any major fabbing i had to do. I was missing a coupler and 2 T-bolt clamps but I needed a longer coupler than the ones they give you for the connection from the upper ic piping and the intercooler anyways because i didnt mount my fmic directly into where the fog lights used to be. I made some bracket sort of things that have been workin great. This front mount looks pretty sick and performs just as good.

First of all I used my SMIC J-pipe and it worked fine, just use a 90* coupler if you dont have or want to spen money on a FMIC J-pipe.

Also you will need another coupler, and I highly recomend getting a new TB gasket as well as resurfacing the TB flange.

I think you know why. Cut your losses homey.

Why? Cause he has to do a little custom work? Nothing wrong with that all the 1g guys are waiting to see how it comes out and I'm sure it will be just fine. it will still be cheaper than buying a 800 dollar kit. 91-GSX thanks for the update :rocks:

Reality check: How many 1g dsms are willing to do custom fabbing on this kit just to get it to fit when you can buy one that fits (perfectly I might add) for $600 bucks?
Not me. I'd rather not have to worry about a sloppy fab job not to mention the time it consumes. Pessemistic? Not all things work out perfectly my friend, and thats just plain ol reality kicking ya in the teeth. This kit rocks for 2g dsmers for the price but I think us 1g guys need to keep looking imho.

Sometimes cheaper is better but I don't feel that way in this case.

"91-GSX I wish you the best"!

Gotta question... most of you that have the kit said it was fast shipping, 3 business days correct? I ordered mine last wednesday night and its not here yet, just curious what some of the shipping times were for you guys.

to pay via credit card:

1) go to ssautochrome.com
2) click on the "customer service" link
3) click on the "secure order form" link
4) click "continue to payment form"
5) fill out the info.

for "item/reference number", i just put "95-99 fmic kit".
for "description", i put "justin's dsmtuner's group buy. $295 shipped"

This is exactly what I did on March 16. I recieved it today (in Canada). It'll be a while before I put it on because I have a lot more work to do on the car before it's road ready - but I wasn't gonna pass up this good deal.

Just like everyone else, I'm missing one coupler and two clamps. The welds look great. I had a couple bent fins, but that's nothing for a pair of tweezers to fix.
