Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

my98GST so is the groupbuy over? Or can anyone just email them and say you want the DSM group buy price?

oh yes, the combo wrench is cheap. I'm surprised you don't have a set. You might as well pick up an entire set. Esp being a DSM owner who works on his car. This is almost something we always bust out.

Also your grinder/cutter hooked up the compressor will be good to use. Prob better. It should cut like butter.

Yeah man, They said they were going to end it at the end of Feb. and do another one including the 1g kit in the middle of march.

i wanna see how it goes for our 1g guy...i dont like the long ass piping in their 1g kit..

if it goes well for him..i might get the same kit he got.

but anyways keep us posted on the gb on the 1g kit.

Hey i was intrested in that group buy ebay FMIC kit, who do i send my money too?
And is it too late, just let me know what to do and i will send money asap. I dont want to miss out on this offer again and would like a FMIC.
Do they have a phone number?
Thanks

Hi guys, mine came in last thursday ! Woot !! its nice, my boy has the dejon fmic..and the ss autochrome one has a thicker core and the endtanks are a wee bit larger.. and i got t bolt clamps with it too ! and 4 ply silicone couplers!

best ebay purchase ever!

Basically, the only thing left so we can smile at the people who have talked down upon this kit is to get some dyno numbers. I know an fmic is not as crucial as some components, but hey people will always try to find something wrong with a cheap product. Supposedly cheap and quality can't go hand in hand. So far it has. Perhaps someone will have some before/after dyno #s.

Other than that, perhaps just time to see how long they hold up. I think people have mentioned already pressure testing the core for 40+ psi?

Give me maybe a couple of days and I'll post some DSMLink HP/TQ and airflow graphs from before and after. Maybe that'll show some improvement.

I pressure tested mine at 40+ psi for almost an hour, it held it just fine.

When they ship if you pay via paypal or bank account, Is it pretty fast shipping?

I ordered mine just now:thumb:
Thats cool I have a 1g BOV anyways, I was just planning on getting a Greddy.

I use a greddy on mine. Check out the past few pages, I posted pics of my engine bay showing the pipes. It is not difficult to modify the flange to take Greddy BOVs, the instructions and links to do that is also within this thread.

Yes this thread is very long, but very informative. Someone should just go through it and get all the information pics that pertain to the SS kit and make a FAQ/write-up.

Yeah, Definately would be helpful to anyone new to the thread that doesn't want to read through 800 posts

Ok, I've read through this thread, and you guys almost have me sold on buying an "ebay" core/kit instead of the 900 dollar one I was going to get, but I have a few quick questions you may be able to answer.

1. If you are going to be using a diff BOV do you have to have a diff flange welded? or do most of the vendors give you an option?
2. On the ebay cores, I realize they might be great for a 16g-20g, but what about for something around the range of a 60-1? or an Fp 3065 (which is what I want to end up with)? Would they hold up and cool well? Because if they do there is no reason to spend the extra 500+ bucks, I can do a lot with 500 bucks right now.

Yeah it'd handle them. These coolers are pretty damn big. They have a 28" core and w/ endtanks they are 32" by 10high x 3.5 thick.... I'd hope that these coolers would handle a 60-1......
