I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Loosely fit the pipes, and see what you like best, and then you can decide which and how much to cut. But I think they are talking about the 90deg. pipe that comes from the turbo. That was my problem as well, but I didn't do any cutting. I used my existing dejontool pipe which was perfect. Kept my beadings. :)

So how do you like the step by step walkthrough we're giving you so far? LOL jk

HEELLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!! FAAASTTTT!!!!

I think I made a boo boo.... Which way is the bumper core supposed to go back on? I cut the side that has 2 holes on one side, two big ones in the middle with a small one inbetween, and two on the other side....... It fits, but the holes don't line up??

Ehhhh shut up!!!! I'm pretty good at mechanical stuff but when it comes to fabricating stuff, I suck shit.

Wow what a royal pain in the ass that was, took me a day & a half. Mainly just because my cutting tools suck.
Well I didn't have an aftermarket J-pipe, so I just used the stock one, stock lower pipe, cut it to a 90 deg bend, then used the 90 deg hard pipe and well you'll get the idea...

What you need to do is loosen up the bolts that hold the actual support to the frame. It makes it alot easier to get the bumper support back on. With everyone having so much trouble, in a day or so I might just pull my bumper back out and make a how too to help everyone out.

I got my core this morning and just finished about two hours ago.It wasnt to bad took about 5 hours. The hardest part is cutting the bumper, and i wouldnt even say hard just time consuming.I also had a hard time gettin the piping to work with a 14b,but managed to get it to work. You can actually feel an obvious difference in power with this.I am very happy with this product and would recommend to anyone.

I'm just thinking about putting the bumper cover on for now and then later if I can find a good deal on a bumper core then I'll recut it... Hell on the first try mine slid right into place and I just eye balled it, but the core was at a funky angle that hte holes wouldn't line up :( I still need to get my turbo back from FP to get it put on so I can finish up my piping and so I can put my bumper back on it so people arent eye ballin the core and thinking about wrenching it :D

For the actual bumper cover, for those who cut out the black part, what did you guys use. Keep in mind I don't have a dremel. I have a Skill Saw, a jig saw, sawzall :eyebrows: and an aircompressed grinder/cutter...

where's our 1g guy?

Hitting the bottle of Nyquil and some warm green tea with a "splash" of crown royal.

LOL, whats up you guys. i am feeling much better and i have already ripped my 14b off today. i was taking a look at the intercooler and checking to see if it would fit. the only hard part looks like the inlet of the fmic, it seems that the 2g guys have nothing blocking their way in that corner while us 1g guys do. that is seems to be the biggest barrier thus far, hopefully i can get around it and figure it out so that we can all benefit from it. and i will tell you now, that i am not gonna give up and have intercooler inlet rewelded so that it can go through the radiator support, because i am sure it will fit like that, but i want to do this in such a way that all 1g's can get it to fit. remember i still need to rebuild my 14b, port it and get it on before the fmic becomes a priority, but i want it to fit really bad because it looks like it would cool very nicely.
takes another shot of crown royal and hits a blunt:D ;) :p
peace out

Here are a few pics for you guys. 2 pics of the mounting locations, 2 of the bent PS line, 1 UICP shot, and the final product. I also opted to drill/tap a new set of holes to use a 10mm bolt instead of a dinky little stock one to mount the FMIC. It is now VERY stable and solid (so much that I could probably sit on it) and I did not use my middle tab. If anyone is wondering, I used a 10x1.5 tap with a 11/32" pilot drill. My car is currently down right now, but will be up and running shortly :thumb:

cool hope you feel better and update us on your 2g fmic adventures.:D

I need a little help cutting my bumper cover. I'm a little confused on which way to do it. Here are some pics so you tell me which one.

They are pretty self explainitory.... Im just a little unsure if I need that piece on the very top where the 4 bolts went..... You can tell what I'm trying to tell you with these pics.

The way I look at it is, you ahve 50º weather which is still fairly chilly, and you're going 60+mph....The windchill is goign to drastically change the temperature. The faster you go the cooler its going to be...

The temp. never changes in with the "windchill" effect. Go read up on it. The wind moves what little heat your body produces away from it faster so it feels cooler. Think about a fan in the summer. It doesn't lower the temp, it moves the heat away from your body.

my98gst.. ok, well i have a 95 and my car came with a bodykit, so all the plastics and reinforcement that wouldve been there if stock were gone. when I did the conversion, the front bumper (OEM) I got also did not have all that extra stuff. So I'm gonna tell you from my perspective. The top pic on the attached pics you posted are how I cut mine. Because I don't have that thing that you mentioned with the 4 bolts. So I'm assuming that has to go. It looks like it might touch the core. And from seeing other people who have cut that black part, that piece you mention is also no where to be found. I also cut from the inside. I cut it with the grinding bit. I was a n00b at the time. Now I will suggest using a nice cutting wheel on the dremel. I never had a dremel before, but after I got one, it is constantly being used. A nice tool to have around, for multiple purposes.

As for tightening the nut. I told you what I did and suggested. tighten it by hand as far as you can, and use a combination wrench. There won't be a lot of leverage, but there will be just enough to slowly tighten it. I don't know how else there is to do it tell you the truth.

So I could just go to sears and pick up a 12mm combo wrench? They're pretty cheap right?

I don't have a dremel, but I have a grinder/cutter that is hooked onto the aircompressor that has an adj. speed trigger. I may use that, but my second option is a skill saw or jig saw :D

ROFL damn dude that sucks. Just give it another day. How much are you willing to spend? I saw a pretty nice fmic in the classifieds.

That depends if it is from a shop or store, Or from a regular person. I am skeptical on buying over the internet unless they can meet in person or do some type of cod. Otherwise, I would buy that fmic everyone has in this thread right from the store for $600, But i'd feel really guilty being everyone else paid half that, Shipped. =(
