Lets talk Ebay FMIC. Especially if you have one.

I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Woot Woot!!!! Just got mine!!!!! How many couplers and tbolts are supposed to be in it?

5 couplers, 10 tbolts

however, they only come with 4 couplers, 8 tbolts for some reason

The picture shows 5/10 and they are required for a proper install. They don't seem to be responding to request for the missing parts.

Anyone have a different experience?

Am I going to have to get a new TB gasket where the new elbow connects or can I reuse the old oen?

It's missing one of the bigger couplings and 2 t-bolt clamps. I ended up using one of my old couplings and went to NAPA and bought new clamps. No gasket is included for the elbow and I used my old one as well.

pnklmnd, I'd like to see pics of how you routed the piping.

ask and you shall recieve. I dont have any of them on the car. But i do have them on the ground TAC welded up before we tig them. It took us about 4 hours to make this piping.

there is one pipe not shown my piping is 3 pieces actually. I have a 90 coming off my turbo(t04b). It faces my passenger side then i have the smaller pipe pictured that meets that. I had to have the pipes have that crazy turnaround because my endtanks cover up the holes you use for short route. And its not rear exit endtanks...that sounds confusing even to me LOL. I will post pictures when i finish TIG'ing them today. Then it will make complete sense!

This is basically what it looks like.

***EDIT***

That lower pipe was a previous attempt and is mainly a mock up piece...before i dide all my Mandrel Bends. I love living where i haver a SUMMIT Racing down the street!!

Honestly, I don't know how it's possible to bend the PS cooler lines behind the bar without removing and reinstalling it. That's why I decided to just remove it and loop the line at the resevoir.

You may need to trim that last bit of metal of the top left of the radiator support. Cut just below the bolt hole for the headlight. Then, again, you may not have to. Best thing to do is put the IC outlet through there and see if the side bar mount will line up with the foglight bracket holes.

This is the best shot I got. Man, she's starting to show her age.

Cutting the bumper and fitting it up was the easy part in my book. Took me about an hour to get the bumper matched up and put back on. :thumb:

Could you give me an idea how much you had to cut off on each side of the center section? Top, bottom, and sides?

I'd appreciate it. That could save me some time and frustration (I have little patience) not having to trim, fit, remove, trim, fit, remove, etc...

On a bad note, I have to get my external wastegate dump tube re-routed because it dumps right on top of the lower intercooler pipe but it shouldn't be that big of a deal. I was going to re-route it into my downpipe anyway because the loud ass external dump was getting old.

I'm going to have this same problem. The ricer in me likes the external dump sound, though.

Has anyone else had an absolute FIT getting the lower right TB nut tight? No matter what I do, I cant get the wrench on it to tighten it down.. Theres a big motor sitting right in my wrenches way...Imagine that LOL

my98gst, thread the nut by hand until you cant anymore, and use a combination wrench. At first I was like "damn how am I going to get this tight (because there was absolutely no space). But do above and it will work.

The best way to install the throttle body elbow is to cut a slit on the lower 2 mounting holes on the elbow so that the bolts will slide into place. So that you won't have to spend so much time trying to tighten that one troublesome bolt. Also for those that are having problems with the PS line. unbolt it from the middle bracket, then unbolt the bottom of the middle bracket and slide the PS Line behind it. The metal mounting bars on the FMIC should be thick enough to clear the PS line. If anyone 2g'er have any questions you can message me on AIM if you want. This was a pretty easy install.

Or try a 60deg offset wrench. That's what I used.

Combination wrench = ratcheting box-end wrench.
