I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Back to my question about connecting IC pipes(if don´t have beads)
Checked Ebay, Found:
Low temperature Aluminium solder and weld kit

does anyone used this thing? read have to use propan and heat, Do I need any welder agregate?

Hey MarsaGSX, a few years ago, I got some pipes like yours for free, and i made my intercooler piping. It had no beads like your pipes. My pipes kept blowing off at 15 psi, so I just got some vise gripes, and bent the end of the pipe all the way around just a little bit. You can make the ends look nice and it will not blow off. I was pushing around 27 psi with out any problems. some might say that is a crappy way, but it worked great, was free, and I doubt it hurt flow much. I was running low 12's with the set up. just a thought.:talon:

Just wondering if ssautochrome replied back with a shipping number after you paid for it.They emailed me back quick the first time, but after ive paid Ihave not heard nothing.

Alright guys. How the hell did you get the bar off that goes in front of the radiator. I bolted the intercooler on from the top tab and there is a bar that goes straight down the middle of the radiator that is welded to the frame. It is causing me problems and I want it gone. I noticed there are bolts that hold it on but it is welded at the bottom. Do I have to chop this thing off or what.

Well, I got my reducer couplers for the blow through set up yesterday, and it looks like there'll be enough length for it. Just need to cut off a couple or so inches off the TB pipe.

I tried to get the lower piping done, but the dump tube on my modified 2G O2 housing was in the way. I had to pull the O2 housing and chop some of the length off, but now it'll dump right on the IC pipe

After hearing some of you guys mention that the lower pipes ended up being just a couple inches too long, I decided to see how they would line up on my car. The 90 degree pipe ends up just passed and below the Big28/T25 compressor outlet. So, I figure might as well order a 90 degree silicone coupler instead of hacking up the housing. Hopefully it works.

However, doing so necessitates slim fans, which I've ordered.

So, another day's worth of work, and still not done :coy: :sosad: I'm hoping one more day, and I'll finally be finished.

After expenses for the couplers and fans, it seems that this budget FMIC has become a bit more expensive than I wanted, but still much more affordable than the other options out there.

Don't know if anyone touched on this yet, but I bought my FMIC kit off of eBay back in December from a company called Extreme Turbo Systems (www.extremeintercoolers.com)

I paid $650 shipped for the entire kit, hardware, piping, t-bolt clamps and silicone couplers. It's a hybrid bar/plate, tube/fin design. It's about 30x7x2.8", and they also have a larger 10" tall kit. It was on sale on eBay when I got it, now goes for about $725.

The thing literally bolted right to everything it needed to, still retain my bumper support, minimal cutting, pipes are PC black, and the quality is second to none. In comparison to the $1000+ Dejon Tool Race FMIC kit I had on my 1g, this thing takes the cake.

Look at them for a cheaper already done setup. I don't know if they're still putting any on eBay, but I can't complain about anything with this kit.

Yeah, that shop is great. I've spoken with the owner and he says that they have dsm's sitting out back so they can custom fabricate their kits so everything actually fits without hacking your car to heck. He makes other stuff too at pretty good prices.

I ground the weld on the bottom off, sawed off the excess, and re bolted it to the frame.

I could say the exact same thing

I was just looking at the power steering lines and did not know they were metal.I always though those were for the AC. Are you guys eliminating those metal lines and just re routing the rubber ones into eachother.I dont see how you could bend those metal lines out of the way.

I didn't really have to do much moving. Just made a new bracket to hold them to the core support.

Oh ok that looks easy enough. It looks like you just moved the center support over and drilled another hole for it.Im planning on doing this on a saturday so I hope i can do it all in one day.

Do we really need that bar that goes infront of the A/C cooler? Just out of curiousity, how come people have been cutting that triangle deal where the hood latch is?

The reason I kept that vertical bar is b/c of the hood latch. I didn't want the bottom of the latch to bend inward and cause problems with shutting the hood if it was cut out.

The triangle portion of the bumper support gets in the way of mounting the IC. I was concerned the bumper may sag a bit w/o the triangle portion, but it hasn't been a problem.

I have the Megan Racing 24x12x3 core, i just finished my piping today, tomorrow ill test it and let you guys know how it go's...

Well mine will be here today some time, damn Fedex bastards came a day early while no one was here and they're coming back today. So let me get this straight. First off, Mount the core using the top tab (drilling hole in the dead center) Then drill a hole on the left mounting tab and use the factory fog light hole(s) and should be pretty much dead on the money correct? I'm guessing I'll need to cut the triangle first and the radiator support beam... and then bend the PS lines.. Thats pretty much it correct and hten just mount the piping?

Holy hell. I finally got it done and the bumper is back on the car, headlights are in and the car is ready to go. I finished it up at about midnight last night and this thing took me almost 3 days to install (about 16 hours total) but I'm picky. I'll post pics tonight but I ended up just removing the PS lines and looped em because I was tired of dealing with it. I also had to yank out the charcoal cannister and lines because the 98 Eclipse has it over on the driver side behind the front bumper and they were in the way. I cut the triangle completly off the and used the top support for the bumper which helped out on the fitting. I ended up leaving that bar alone that goes down the middle of the radiator and bent the top notch on the intercooler to make it fit.

Now the fun part, I had to cut the 90 deg piping on both ends because they were both about 2" to long and the pipes did not come close to fitting up right. I also had to cut the lower intercooler pipe about 2" because it was hitting my downpipe when I put the intercooler against the frame. I did all this with a hacksaw because I broke my sawzaw in the process. I have to say, this was a bi*** to get on and I think alot of my problems were from not having a factory turbo. I have a AGP RS60T and it was obvious this was not meant for this turbo. In all, I say it was 100% worth it and after everything, it looks awesome. I'll post up pics tonight. Cutting the bumper and fitting it up was the easy part in my book. Took me about an hour to get the bumper matched up and put back on. :thumb:

On a bad note, I have to get my external wastegate dump tube re-routed because it dumps right on top of the lower intercooler pipe but it shouldn't be that big of a deal. I was going to re-route it into my downpipe anyway because the loud ass external dump was getting old.

Wow 16 hours that is a rough day at the office.I hope that mine doesnt take me that long.So you just took the metal ps lines out and just looped the rubber one back into the other side.Did you cut that middle bar off or did you just leave it as is and then bend the core bracket.Or did you have to put that middle beam somewhere else to make it work.I dont know who did it that way but i saw the pics and it looks like he cut it out and remounted it over just a bit.

I'm looking at my car as i type this and I see NO black box????? All I see is the splash guard where the oil cooler is.

Well, it was 16 hours total but I split it up in a 3 day period. I just removed all the PS lines and used one of the lines off my charcoal cannister and looped it. I'll post pics up later tonight when I get off work. Hopefully this won't cause an issue with my PS but from what I've read it's not a big deal. I left the middle bar alone and didn't mess with it. I bent the core bracket just a little bit and it fit up just fine. I have a garage full of crap I've got to throw away now. I've got my bumper support, my charcoal cannister with lines, PS lines, plastic I had to rip off. My wife was like WTF did you do to your car.ROFL

This has to be something they did on the 98 GSX. I went through this earlier in the thread because I had no clue what it was. I researched back and ended up finding a forum that DSMJIM posted with the same question. It ended up that on the 98 GSX/TSI they moved the charcoal cannister to this location. Here's a pic off his car. I yanked all this crap out and you can see why I had to. My pipes would not come close to fitting without all this gone.
